Fans discuss Jerry's Apocalypse Now parody in the standup segment of 'The Boyfriend (2)', where he references the famous napalm quote while talking about moving boxes.
In Jerry's stand up act preceding the episode"Boyfriend Part 2", Jerry parodies Apocolysps Now with the line "I love the smell of cardboard in the morning..." . This is the part of his routine where he talks about moving and boxes.
In the movie, I don't remeber the character, but an Army officer says." I love the smell of napalm inthe morning,.. the smell of victory". (Close as i coud get, haven't watched Apocolypse Now in about 15 years.)

That would be Robert Duvall's character, the surfing Air Cavalry Colonel, although the name of the character escapes me at the moment. IMO, Apocalypse Now wasn't a great movie, but that "Ride of the Valkyries" air assault scene is a classic.
Good call actually, and I would add it to the FAQ, but as a rule, we don't include the stand-up bits as part of the show when compiling Qs and As. For example, food or drinks mentioned during the stand-up parts are not included in the food list in the FAQ.

"Heart of Darkness", it's the book the movie came from.

I hated that book when I was 18, but I read it again last year (I was 26), and it is now one of my all-time favourites. Perhaps I should give Catcher in the Rye another shot.
As Dave (ratboy) explains we don't usually put the stand-up bits in the references. On my page I actually DID add this one a long time ago. Apocalypse Now is referenced twice in episodes as well.

The marks go to 'AL' . It was Lawrence Fishburne. Gosh, he looked so young there. He was only 16 or 17. How did he get so old by now and I didn't. Like Dorian Gray or something. :-) He gets older in films and I stay young. Fantastic! :-)
Ah, so you think Apocalypse now was ABOUT Vietnam. Apocalypse now was only SET in Vietnam. It was a movie made of the book Heart of Darkness. It was about the mind, the inner workings of humanity, like that -you know. Traveling up the river = traveling deeper into the mind. I think they were both good movies.
We have a cable channel here in Canada called The History Channel. A couple of months ago they did a Vietnam Week. So I taped 'em all. Platoon, Casualties of War, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse now,...
So whenever I see Clinton on CNN talking about the atrocities in Kosovo and how war criminals will be punished and his disgust of ethnic cleansing I pop one of those tapes in and laugh at the hypocrisy and short and selective memories of my good friends to the south. - You know, project Phoenix, Mai Lai, etc... (good people doing bad things - it happens)

Very much - the whole scene at the end when Elaine travels to Myanmar to get Peterman to sign the hat invoice - he says the same line as Kurtz does ... something like... "...you are nothing but an errand boy sent by grocery clerks..." I wish they had done a Dennis Hopper thing though.
Well, it WAS about Vietnam, at least on some levels. It's been a long time since I've either seen the movie or read Heart of Darkness, but IIRC, Coppola took a very loose interpretation and changed a great deal. I still think Kubrick did a better job of what he was trying to accomplish.
TNT recently did an adaptation for TV of Heart of Darkness, although I didn't see it. When they make an original movie, they show it a couple of times a day for a month or so. I keep thinking that I have plenty of opportunities to see it, so of course I keep putting it off and end up never seeing the thing.
