NBC Announces Seinfeld Spinoff

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - NBC has announced new plans for the "Seinfeld" series finale this Thursday. Reportedly, NBC has decided to go ahead with plans to include a five-minute promotional spot for the broadcast of footage from the first Seinfeld spinoff, "Newman and Cliff Go Postal", which will air next season on NBC.

The new sitcom reportedly stars Wayne Knight, currently starring as Kramer's mailman buddy on "Seinfeld", and will also star John Ratzenberger who will be reprising the character of mailman Cliff Claven from the 1982-1993 series "Cheers". Although details have not been revealed, one insider reported that the series would revolve around Claven's move to New York City, where nobody knows his name, and his subsequent rivalry and relationship with Newman.

"Don't expect the usual sitcom friendship between these two," the insider reported. "Basically what you can expect is a love/hate codependent relationship revolving around the wacky antics of the two characters."

The promo spot for "Newman and Cliff Go Postal" will air between Seinfeld's retrospective "Clip Show" and the actual Seinfeld series finale.
