A Few Thoughts Blaming All of Us

I for one place part of the blame on myself for my disappointment.

My problem is that I have many, many episodes on tape and watch them frequently . . . including the Bubble Boy, for instance. The last thing I wanted to see in the last episode was old episodes rehashed, especially since many of them I have watched recently. Maybe we all just know the show too well (if we didn't, we likely wouldn't spend much time in this newsgroup) and that caused signifigant ire because we longed for new material.

I honestly have great difficulty thinking of an ending that wouldn't have left me disappointed. They should, however, be given credit for jabbing at all of us who tried to predict the ending . . . all the scenarios were hinted at, but none of them happened. I don't remember reading any "prison ending" suppositions . . .

And one more thing - - - did you make the connection in the scene where Jerry and George just left the NBC office, and started to hug, but refrained. Remember Seinfeld and Larry David's motto for the series - - "no hugging, no learning."

I'll have to reserve judgement until after I watch it again in a few days and after the "coffee machine" conversations tomorrow.

As someone who watches the reruns, hasn't caught a first run in over a year, and only has "the contest" on tape - trust me, you shouldn't blame yourself. This was a frighteningly awful misstep. I have NEVER seen an episode of this show I could honestly call "bad" - until tonight, where the word is simply not close to what needs to be said. Barring the entire courtroom sequence - which was utterly baffling to anyone who DOESN'T have every tape and reference guide handy (Oh, I got most of it, but their assumption was that you've memorized every second of every episode, so every back-story bone they threw was supposedly hilarious) the ending could have worked if their sentence wasn't so trivial. If they ended up in a cell together for the REST oF THEIR LIVES due to some trumped up charge, doomed to eternally rehash their catch-phrases and small talk, it would have been a hilarious, albeit surreal fate. This "one year" thing only made you think - as evidenced on this newsgroup - that they maybe intend to come back in a year. Talk about screwing a punchline!!!!

I think they would have had a really hard time meeting our expectations. After all, they pulled the plug on the show because they thought they were slipping.

Many of us, including me, were hoping for a return of the Soup Nazi, Babu, etc. They gave us our wish, and we're still complaining.

It wasn't a great episode, but it wasn't terrible.
