"speed dial" ranking

i just watched the episode which concerned the "speed dial" ranking. is is true that in NY, people are so particular about where they "stand" on the speed dial, or is it just another seinfeld observation. i find it very amusing!

As far as it being a "Seinfeld observation", in fact, there was a similar plot a few years ago on "Dave's World". Kenny (Shadoe Stevens) was put off when he discovered that he was only number 12. I don't think it is a "New York" thing.
