Off-topic thread about customer being banned from produce store after complaining about rotten carrots and arguing with cashier over exchange.

I was a regular customer (about 4 times a week) at a local fruit and vegetable store. Of all the many times I've shopped there - I never have questioned anything or caused any trouble. Everytime I have shopped there, I always quietly and quickly purchased my items and left.

One night last week, I picked up a few things, which included a couple bags of carrots. When I got home, I tried a carrot and it tasted rotten...The next morning, I noticed that the carrots were so old, they were half blackened.

Later that day, I went back to the store. I approached the woman I made the purchase from the night before, (an Asian woman in her late 30's). I had to wait a minute, as she was busy counting money at the register.

I explained that the carrots I had bought the night before, (which I had with me), were old and that I would like to simply exchange them for two other bags of carrots.

She responded, "I don't believe you, these are not from last night."

I said, "What do you mean they're not from last night?!"

She insisted that these carrots must be from "another time".

I sarcastically responded, "Yeh, I'm going to come all the way back here over 66 cents." (Each bag costs 33 cents.)

I was starting to get peeved - partly because there were occasions in the past, where I came across a rotten piece of food and just let it slide.

She kept implying that I had some alterior motive in returning them. I kept getting angrier and angrier.

I told her that I would show her where I got the bags from - she didn't move. So I went to go get a couple of bags. With the intention of taking the carrots with me, this time I chose a different brand so that I wouldn't chance another rotten batch. When she saw that I had brought over a different brand, this somewhow substantiated her original suspicions about me.

"Ahhh, see?? It's different..." she accusingly remarked.

She stated that I couldn't take the carrots with me.

I stated, "I AM taking these carrots."

She said, "Go ahead, but you can only take one bag...not two."

I insisted on both.

Pushing the carrots towards me, she said, "Ok, take them...but you can't come here anymore!"

I stated to her, "Let me get this straight; you are willing to lose me as a customer over 66 cents?! I come here all the time."

She said, "Yes, I know..."

I yelled at her, "You are so stupid!"

She said, "Get out of here!"

I yelled again, "You are so fucking stupid!"

She said, "So are you!"

I left.

Hey, you got some bad carrots? That's an act of God. He makes the carrots. She doesn't make the carrots, she sells the carrots. You have a problem? You talk to him.

You actually took time out of your day, and got out of your car to take something back that cost 33 cents? You wasted more in gas starting your car than that. If this is the kind of stuff you have to worry about then you are one lucky bastard. Compare that with someone who has real problems, like, oh, say, trying to pay off two hundred thousand in medical bills. Makes your carrot story look pretty lame...and you, like someone who needs real problems and a life to go with them. Rotten carrots are what garbage cans are for, any further thoughts on this matter are neurotic, bordering on screwballism.

All these litle businesses run by foreigners are corrupt. I only deal with native peoples. This is true in all nations.

An ex-flatmate of mine once banned a guy from his flat whilst he was away on holiday because the guy was, you know, a little Lloyd Braunish and he couldn't trust him. The guy couldn't believe that he got banned either. He did however find an old raincoat on his way home in a rubbish can and whats more the coat fitted him.

You got me all figured out, heh? First off, I didn't use a car to get there. Secondly, I was already planning on going into town for other things and casually brought the carrots along to return them. I suppose you've never returned anything(?)

I guess you meant that in a complementary way...

You know when people say, "He's bad", it really means he's good...

I'll use it in a sentence...

"Man, that Michael Jordan is so phony!"

I'd advise switching to little organic baby carrots. No rinsing, no peeling, just tear open the bag and dump them in the pot. It's a delight! Plus, you can avoid the whole ridiculous scene of getting banned from a fruit stand by a little old Asian lady.

I was at the supermarket the other evening and ovre the pa system one of the checkout operators was calling for George in produce to pick up a line. George didn't answer so the operator had to page him 2 more times before him did. George sounded kind of grumpy so I thought "George is getting upset".

What do you think this is a little scam I have? I take these carrots all over the city conning produce stores out of money?! In fact, forget the money. I don't even want the money. I just once, I would like to hear a produce store owner admit that something was their fault. That's what I want. I want an admission of guilt.
