Martin and Gina

At the end of tonight's second episode which featured a brief romance between Jerry and Gina, "Mediterranean" girlfriend of Jerry's big, scary, jealous neighbor Martin, I switched to our local Fox affiliate for the 10 o'clock news. And guess what is the first thing I hear? A promo for "the hottest new series", namely Martin and Gina.

Is this just a coincidence or is it possible that Fox would spin-off two characters from an NBC series into a sitcom of their own? Never having seen the Fox series (the promo was just a voice-over) I don't know if Fox's Martin and Gina are the same people as Jerry's neighbors.

comedian Martin Lawrence (I think) and his girlfriend on the show is named Gina!

Nope; its not the "Seinfeld" duo. The Martin and Gina on Fox are characters from a new show called "Martin". Martin is played by Martin Lawrence and Gina by Tisha Campbell; they're both black.

IMHO, this is a pretty funny show. No Seinfeld, but Martin is pretty funny and Tisha is no eyesore.
