Today is, for all intents and purposes, Christmas Eve for all the Seinfeld fans across the nation. They eagerly await the pixel package which will be under the tree tomorrow; it is a surprise, something they did not ask Santa for, but which will be given to them with their well-being in mind. Some Christmas presents are successful, others are not so...thus, the anticipation is the true enjoyment factor for many, not so much for what is actually delivered. The hype is reaching crescendos and zeniths, peaks, so forth; many trillions of kilocalories of physiological energy are being expended for purposes of generating and processing the enormous expectations the Seinfeldians have for their last hurrah. It is understandable, really; after all, consider that they have invested nine years of part of their social time towards following the sundry plots and trivial travails of the four fictional New Yorkers who supposedly epitomize what existential nothingness is. Nine years is one shy of a decade, but it's close enough. The last episode is a sad testament to the passing of a significant unit of time (more than 10% of a lifetime for most folks), a brutal reminder that time can be awfully liquid and fast-flowing when it wants to be: many will look back at the beginning, and not believe that it's all gone so quickly, their lives having changed so much since point A became coordinate Z...others are perhaps really just beginning, perhaps with still a few years left to freedom from the horrors of high school...some most certainly will have died before the climax, while others may die shortly thereafter. The Final Seinfeld is more than just the swansong for a very wealthy comedian; it is a marker in the tide of time, a touchstone that will bring certain generations together while simultaneously widening the gap between/among others. Let us hope the finale is worthy of the term zeitgeist, although we know the odds will be low, as the physics never seem to get their equations straight anymore. QED.
