Any aspiring or closet comics amongst us?

I've been re-evaluating my career and realizing that I have a strong desire to write comic essays or books. I have noticed that I have this part of me that when inspired really can do comic monologues. Sometimes these come on the phone, when talking ot someone. Sometimes they come in class when I'm teaching and I just take off on something. I think I'm too shy to be a stand-up comic, but I could really get into writing humor. This is a revelation to me. I've been thinking about what I want to do next and knowing it hast o do with writing but I had not realized how strong a desire this is. This might seem a strange topic but there some very bright creative people on this list and I"m just curious if others of you find yourselves amusing your friends with comic monologues, etc. I'm not worried about the money part because I can pull in enough to survive from teaching.
