Oh please. I'm just rather sick of seeing every damn ethnic and special-interest group complaining about any little thing. That puerto-rican complaint was one of the top stories on the news tonight. If we as a society did everything so as not to offend anyone, then life would be very, very, very dull.
hahahahaha, I had a good laugh watching that episode. It didn't give me the impression that puerto-ricans riot throughout their streets, etc. Only the truly stupid think what they see in a sitcom is fact. And the truly stupid also are offended when they can't get the joke in a sitcom.

I don't care what anybody says but I'll always admire the italian immigrants that came to our country and formed the mob. Had Seinfeld burned the Italian flag on national television this whole incident would have been different. No complaints to NBC, no posts to newsgroups, nothing. Then a few months later some made guy in lower brooklyn gives the word and the wacking begins. Period. Twenty years later Scorsese makes a movie about the incident and i'm there front and center to watch it.

If this was an Israeli Day Parade (at least the Puerto Ricans get a parade, harumph.) and the identical set of circumstances brought forth Kramer putting out an Israeli flag that he accidentally set on fire, I would expect a small minority within the Jewish community to be angry or annoyed, and I would expect the vast majority of Jewish Seinfeld viewers to have laughed their asses off over it.
Gee, haven't heard from Tanaka. maybe it's only offensive when HIS ethnic group gets the Seinfeld treatment. Maybe he doesn't care quite as much about 'the human condition' as he wants everyone to believe.

You have the realize the CONTEXT of what is behind the flag burning. When Saddam and his militia burn the American Flag, it is out of anger and hatred and resentment toward the United States.
Now, the CONTEXT behind the Seinfeld episode was humor - a joke. Kramer was enjoying the Puerto Rican people and the Puerto Rican parade. He was dancing around with the flag draped over him. Then he ACCIDENTALLY sets the flag on fire and tries to put it out. His character, nor the writers of Seinfeld, meant no disrespect for Puerto Ricans.
Can't you see the difference?
