Whoa! Talmudic law? Anyone who attended Sunday-school as a kid will remember that story as an example of the wisdom of King Solomon:

• Two women both claim to be the mother of an infant,
• Solomon decrees that the baby be cut in half,
• the woman who would rather give up the baby than see it killed is deemed to be the real mother.

You may be quite correct about Talmudic law, but I took this scene to mean that Newman had a Christian upbringing.

I don't care if Newman is Jewish or not, but the Solomon thing doesen't prove it one way or another. The King Solomon story is also a part of many Jewish upbringings, it's a classic Sunday school story for both religions, it *is* in the "Old" Testament, after all.

My implication is that there are biblical figures that are Jewish, but are
more associated with Christianity.  I was just trying to set the record
straight, making sure that whatever they teach about in Sunday schools to
Christian children, they should teach that King Solomon was a Jew, and that
his wisdom is the wisdom of a Jew, rather than co-opt him and imply he is
one of their own.
It also might serve to reduce anti-Semitism, for Christian children to grow
up understanding that
Jews can be wise, honorable people, rather than
    A) not discussing the positive qualities of Jews at all     or
    B) implying Jews are evil Christ-killers
