We get the Letterman show here in the UKoGBaNI a day late. I've just watched yesterday's (Weds 30th) edition - the one Tori Amos was on - and Dave said "in tomorrow's show, Warren Zevon", but no mention of Jerry, who I thought was on doing his new stand-up material.

I noticed that the bit shown from "The Comedian" where Seinfeld talks about how the audience really have no business rating his show and how they would feel if he showed up at their office and rated their work performance.
That bit didn't at all stike me as being new material but as a bit from the Seinfeld episode with the buhing collegue of Elaine who got so frustrated, when Seinfeld showed up at her office and buhed back at her, that she ran into the streed and lost her pinkie toe.
New material? I think not.

His new comedy act is. Remember, he "retired" all his old material, and started fresh.
That said, I think the previous poster is whining about it unnecessarily. I mean, c'mon--there are bound to be a few loose similarities to previous material or even other people's bits, since that's the nature of all art. If he's going to discuss his job, audience approval will almost certainly come up. It's not like he did his entire bumper cars routine verbatim from the 1970's...

It's not that the movie itself was new material it was that the movie was about Jerry's throwing away ALL his old routine and developing a whole new act. I thought his discussion about "the audience deciding what was funny, yet they have no experience, they never wrote a joke, they aren't professional comedians," was a new slant on the heckling and booing aspect of audiences. The audience pays Jerry to do things. They're the perfect people to evaluate how good they think he does them.
Heckling and booing, of course, are inexcusable--not because of the performer, but because of the rest of the members of the paying audience.

I taped Jerry's schtick on Letterman...whole thing ran 7-16 minutes. I jerked up the onboard timer so I am not sure how long Jerry was on stage/interviewed.
The NY Post did a little article on it yesterday, tie-ing in _Commedian_ as well.
Wish I had a capture card so I could xfr, but alas, I do not...
