Best George monologue?

My vote for the best George monologue is the story he tells at the end of the episode where he pretends to be a marine biologist.

"The sea was angry that day, my friends, like an old man trying to send soup back at a deli...."

That scene just kills me!

I like the one from 'The Set-up' when he's discussing his love-life over dinner with Jerry.

G- "It's gotten to the point where I'm flirting with operators on the telephone now. I almost made a date with one."

That's a good one. The ending is so 'Abbott and Costello-like'.

But my favorite George bit has to be the "For I am Costanza, Lord of the Idiots" speech in "The Apartment". Not only is it hysterical, but it's also historical. This was only the 10th episode, and we were still learning about what makes the characters tick. This bit allowed us for the first time to see the self-loathing that plagues George for years to come.

Re the "Abbott & Costello" reference: Is it correct that Jerry was influenced to a great extent by the snappy dialogue in the writing of the comedy team's old TV show?

I finally got to tape another favorite bit of dialogue in a recent re-run ("The Suicide"?) in which Jerry & George capture that same flavor: The one where Jerry, in his apartment building hallway, tries to get George to throw out his garbage. Will try to transcribe and post this weekend.

Absolutely! Jerry loved A&C. He even hosted the tribute to A&C that aired on cable some time last year. There have been several Jerry/George dialogues that were very reminiscent of the old A&C routines.

Also, as a tribute, in "The Old Man", when Jerry and Elaine sign up to provide companionship for the elderly, the crotchety (I love that word) old man that Jerry was assigned to was named Sid Fields, after A&C's landlord.

At one time, I had a list of the dialogue bits that sounded like they
came straight from Abbott & Costello, probably from a magazine
article.  I'll look around and post what I find.

or something like that, I still crack up when I see that scene.

I agree. That is definately my favorite George line.

Every time I see that episode, that line makes me laugh so hard I cry.
