The great thing about jerry is he has a phobia for many of life activiites. One of the best episodes that portrayed jerry's phobia is in the toothbrush episode, where Jerry throws out many of his possessions because he thinks they are germ infested.

It maybe an obvious statement on my part but Jerry's phobias appear to be a result of obsessive compulsive disorder... his extreme neatness and the example given above makes this clear to this armchair psychoanalyst.

Speaking as another armchair psychoanalyst who has had some graduate training in psychology and who has a sister who lives near by who is a practicing clinical psychologist, Seinfeld definitely seems about as obsessive compulsive as this sentence runs on way too much! :)
But, (BS in Counseling Psych), notice that Jerry never exhibits any of the ritualistic behavior typically associated with OCD. No repetitive motions, no 'checking' behavior. His disorder appears to exist entirely in the emotional realm. Now, I don't have my copy of DSM-4 but I'm thinking a physical aspect is required for diagnosis.
