Re: maybe dingo ate... The quote comes from a famous 10 yr long murder case in Australia Lindy Chamberlain. She went on vac. with hubby, baby Azaria and her two sons(?). Azaria turns up dead, blood in the trunk of her car and bloodied baby clothes scattered kms away. She claimed 'A dingo ate my baby!!'. I can't fully remeber the episode and the context it was used in but probably more for shock effect. Lindy is now free, divorced, making all kinds of money writing books & TV appearances after suing the government for sending her to jail. This is a reference to the famous baby disappearance on August 19, at Ayers rock, Northern Territory, Australia. The baby's name was Azaria Chambelain, and was 10 weeks old at the time of disappearance. The Mother of the baby, Lindy Chamberlain, has always maintained that her baby was taken by Dingoes, Native wild Australian dogs. They claim they chased the dingo but were unable to keep up. The initial inquest in 1981 found that dingoes did take the baby, but an unknown person was responsible for hiding the body. In a second inquest Lindy Chamberlain was commited for trial on the charge of murder. She was found guilty and sentenced to life inprisonment for murder. To cut a long story short, she was later aquitted, and the conviction quashed. However this did not change many Australian's belief's that she was the killer. The saga was made into a movie called Evil Angels and starred Merryl Streep as Lindy Chamberlain. One of the most famous lines in the movie, was 'My baby! The dingo's got my baby!" And of course this is what Elaine was reffering to.
