Should Elaine & Jerry get married?

Let's put our cards on the table:

Do we want to see Jerry and Elaine marry in a final episode or not?

I've changed my mind (again) and say, as Marv Albert would, YESSSSSSSS!

Andy, my opinion on this matter bounces back and forth also. I think Elaine and Jerry would make a great married couple but it would be more funny and shocking if Elaine married George

I would like to see Jerry & Elaine married but not on the last episode. I would at least want to see one season of it before they go off the air.

IMHO It would kill the series altogether for me, repeats included, whether it were to happen in the next episode or in the season finale. Also, who would they get to lick the envelopes for the invitations? ; - )

Might be nice, but I wouldn't put off the possibility of a "Seinfeld Motion Picture" extravaganza, not unlike one of Bob Hope's "On the Road to ***" movies.

Thank goodness! (Not to mention the fact that the actors DO have a voice in the outcome of their characters' misadventures, and kissing someone is not something they look forward to, rehearsal after rehearsal... gross! As for Elaine's character, sure, she may come off as some kind of cheap tramp, but as an actress that is dedicated to professionalism, it's not like she has to get THAT close to that many different aspiring actors.)

I agree! There have been many many comedy shows where the main characters were spouses. The marriage bit has been done to death. That's one of the things I identify with Seinfeld, its characters are almost all single, like me.

Too, it would probably do away with many opportunities to make those hilarious observations and comments about dating and single relationships. Ariosa

I agree. You know they want to! In an episode this season (forget its title), all of Jerry's true emotions came out....including the desire to marry Elaine. They really do belong together.

About Elaine marrying George....no way! She hates him. She's called him an idiot to his face more than once. He's a wuss and she can't respect him. Elaine marrying George would not be funny, it would be a disgusting tragedy.

Were you implying that they both were getting married (to different individuals), but then, on their wedding nights ---- coincidentally at the same ski lodge, or whatever --- they inadvertently ended up together in the same room?

Scenarios for possible "marriage themes" ----

1) The Heiress. Jerry meets, mates, and weds some lady of the British aristocracy, but Kramer accuses the lady of already being married to several other "Lords" --- apparently she was too busy to get "divorces" or maybe she just needed a "spare" ?? - See the Duchess of Kingston's Case, which was tried in the House of Lords back in 1776!

2) The Wine Goblet. Elaine drinks herself into a delirium, and finds herself married in Las Vegas. Well, those things sort of happen. But married to a man fifteen years her junior?

3) The Proposition. George proposes, and marries, a homeless woman. His mom insists it be annulled, as he was clearly not sane when he uttered his wedding oath. He met her on the subway. The bride is actually 25 years his senior, but has a remarkably youthful appearance. (Also, for more reference material, see Van Wyck v. Stapp, 13 NYS.2d 470, 257 App.Div. 304.)

IMHO, I think Jerry in real life would like to settle down. He mentioned on Larry King Live that he missed Shoshanna (sp) very much.

I think it wouldn't be bad if Elaine and Jerry got married. Julia-Louis Dreyfuss who plays Elaine says she would love to have an episode in which Jerry and Elaine fall in love...and then get killed in a car crash. But, I'd like to see them in love or married, but maybe in a dream sequence or a flashback to them the time when they were still dating. Besides, Elaine is the one woman who understands Jerry and Jerry is good friends with Elaine (she's the only woman who hasn't left him), both respect each other, so why not ? Besides if Jerry and Elaine don't get married, what are they going to do for the series finale of Seinfeld...just have the final episode be another show about nothing ?

Rather than get married, I would just like to see Jerry and Elaine screw. And I would like to see it shown in graphic detail, not just implied. Also, I want to see this take place right on the NBC show, not on some porno web site.

Given that Seinfeld is supposed to be a family show, I doubt you'll ever see graphic sex on the show. After all, I doubt that Seinfeld's producers want to take on the sexually repressed FCC and religious censors.

I just think that the end of the show should just be like all the others have been. This way we can go on thinking that the four of these characters are just continuing with their crazy lives like always. <G> They could end it with the four of them being marooned on an island after a disasterous tour in the Caribbean.
