I thought last night's show was funny; and I also like how Seinfeld plots tend to be very cyclical. For example, in one episode last year, George mentioned he would love to have sex with a very tall woman. Then, the last scene of that episode showed George answering a knock at Jerry's door and lo and bohold...a very tall woman was there. That happens a lot in Seinfeld...like last night when Uncle Leo found the wallet in the garbage can. It's the subtle nuances of the show that make it better than others on TV. (or Kramer asking for a decaf cappucino...)
I didn't think that the Leo shots were very subtle. I do like the self referential bits when they are subtle but this whole "the show is about nothing" routine has gone on way too long. I was afraid that the pressures of having a "hit show" would cause the stories to deteriorate (come on, they are about something). I was also hoping that George's refusal of the NBC offer would end the show theme but it didn't. I've also noticed that Kramer has become more goofy lately (maybe in reaction the popularity of the character - let's try and keep him real nutty!) and this might make his schtick stale. I hope not.
You're not alone. In fact,majority of fans think that the 2-parter blew BIG-TIME(Seinfeld didn't even crack Top 20 in the Nielsen ratings). But at least in the 2nd part,things were moving a little bit more unlike last week when it was bordering between flat and slow.
A friend of mine at work thinks that George's character has been altered by becoming more confident and much more secure. She thinks the writers are making him less neurotic this year. I agree. It's too bad since George's neuroticism was the side of the show which worked so well in the last couple of seasons.
I noticed that even Kramer comes across as more relaxed. At times, I thought Michael Richards was acting like himself(normal) during last night's show. Bring back hyperactive Kramer! Also, you know the writers are struggling when you see Kramer's bit in the leather chair with 'funny' noises which was one of the classic Benny Hill skits 10 or 15 years ago.
Elaine becoming really a supportive 'supporting' character. She's definetly not getting any good lines.
I think the Hollywood theme was the worst thing that could have happened to the show. There is 23 more episodes before the end of May so there is hope.
Well, since I was among the many who griped about the season opener,
I'll go on record as having liked the show the last two weeks,
especially this week's show. I thought Kramer was much funnier last
night -- less a caricature than he has been recently. (Though I gather
from the posts to this news group that a lot of people like the over-the-
top behavior.) I thought the scene where Elaine asked him to call her
lover/shrink was hilarious, and the scene with Kramer in the shrink's
office was funny, too. In both cases, Kramer was only slightly nuts,
rather than completely bonkers. (ObFavorite:

Kramer: "Ooh, baby." Great delivery by M. Richards.)
These shows haven't matched the best episodes (IMO), but they have been good.
