In the "backwards" episode where there is this wedding in India, Elaine tells Jerry what his Name means in India. It's "Jugdish" or something like that.
Is this funny because it just sounds stupid or does that word mean anything in English?

It is Jagdish. It is an Indian name. I dont think it means anything in English. I think in that episode some Indian guy has that name and Elaine thought that it would be a funny name for Jerry.
One of those things that has no relevance but is harped on. Just like any other Seinfeld episode.
