Fans debate whether Jerry Seinfeld's claim of never watching I Love Lucy is credible, with discussion about whether he meant intentionally watching versus casual exposure.
There was an interview Jerry did during one of the first few years of Seinfeld in which he stated he had never seen a single episode of I Love Lucy. For some reason, this statement has stuck with me.
I find it extremely hard to believe that someone Jerry's age who has lived his whole life in these United States has never even seen one episode. It would be like someone claiming they've never had an Oreo or a Coke.
Anyone?

Jerry repeated that claim during an episode of the show. I'm sure he means he has never sat down and intentionally watched an episode of the show. Along the same lines, I've never watched an episode of X-files but I've crossed it many times during channel surfing and know the prime characters are Scully & Mulder.
The only thing that surprizes me about Jerry never watching Lucy is the fact that most comics have a history of their craft & watch the pioneers of the industry. Without a doubt, I Love Lucy was a cornerstone for sitcoms & I thought Jerry might have watched out of a sense of history.

I concur, I Love Lucy was easily the most overrated show in television history. I would consider Jerry very fortunate to have failed to view a single episode of that monstrosity of a program.
I am not a big fan of I Love Lucy either, but you have to consider the period of television history the the show appeared in. At the time I Love Lucy was the dominate, most watched & funniest show on television. After all the sitcoms that have come since Lucy, that show does not hold a high place on my list of comedy shows but it has my respect as the top show of its time.
