Gyro?

Hello I've seen gyros (spelling?) mentioned a couple of times. Mostly on the TV Guide/Subway/Gyro episode (sorry we don't get the titles in the UK). I only know they are hot and come in silver foil. Can anybody enlighten me? James

Hi James. Gyros are a Greek type of sandwich which generally consist of lamb, onions, lettuce, perhaps some other vegetables, tzaziki (spelling?) sauce which is yogurt based, wrapped in pita bread. I love them but they are very messy. That is why you keep the gyro in the foil or paper wrapping.

It is physically impossible to eat a Gyro (authentic Greek pronunciation yee-ro) without spilling the sauce on yourself...also ..they are delicious

I've also had them served on a platter "disassebled" with lamb, salad, and pita bread on the side.

Gyro is a sandwich that came from greece, it consist of thin slices of lamb meat with chopped lettuce, tomatoes and a cucumber dressing wrapped in pitia bread.

Up here in Canada we have something a lot like the gyro, but it's called a "donair" and they're usually sold at pizza delivery places. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
