The Aug. 8-14 TV GUIDE: for SEINFELD, 8-12-92, 8:00 PM CDT, Part I of a two-part fourth-season opener.

      "When last seen, Kramer was acting in his second professional role
 (Remember his line in the Woody Allen movie?), as one of the permanently
 temporary secretaries on 'Murphy Brown.'  But since then, the harsh reali-
 ties of Hollywood have set in.  Murphy won't take his call, and he has to
 join everyone auditioning for everything.  But he does win a new  actress
 friend (Debi A. Monahan), who's interested in his film treatment.  Sadly,
 the young star Kramer accosts in a coffee shop isn't.
      Meanwhile, the quest for Kramer is a quest of convenience for Jerry.
 He has a 'Tonight Show' gig and the chance to bring a guest along. He
 chooses George.  Bad Choice.  Just ask guest stars George Wendt and

According to TV Guide's Wednesday Guidelines section...George Wendt and Corbin Bernsen will be joined by a surprise guest star (not Candice Bergen).

Any guesses...I definatly think I know who it will be...(but its just a guess)

I read TV Guide yesterday and it mentioned that Jerry and George make an appearance on the Tonight Show in this 2-part episode called "Hollywood!". I know Jerry Seinfeld is good buddies with Leno. Carson also gave him alot of exposure when Jerry was just starting out in the stand-up circuit. I would love to have Kramer meet Letterman on some episode. That would an ultimate encounter,IMHO!

I wonder how they're going to handle Elaine's presence on tonight's show.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was VERY pregnant at the end of the season, remember, almost too much to hide.

Either they filmed these two "special" episodes right afterwards, or they'll have to leave her out of the show (she had her baby just last month, which would be about when they'd have to film tonight's show according to standard schedules). Or maybe they filmed just her face in some "inserts" (a la Susan Saint James on Kate & Allie in a similar situation), for instance on the phone when the guys check in with her while having their adventures. It'll be interesting....

I also read, in a far from reliable source (Ace Thompson's T.V. Talk), that Seinfeld will have 3 of his childhood pals nickednamed Nylun, Bard and Lucky making appearances. They will each have a very tiny part as characters with their childhood nicknames.

No Leno, no Carson, no Hall, no Miller, no Lettermen, no Costos, no nobody. Not even a voice, nor lights on stage.

No way, aye! I sensed a distinct zaniness in last night's episode that's been absent previously. I think the writers are starting to really have fun with the different characters' fans and Kramer's fans just happen to have latched on to the mystery of his name. It's a symptom of really good production that there's communication, not just monologue, with the audience. Maybe the writers will slip up and we'll be able to piece it together. Personally, I'm all right with the single name but I believe it's actually his last name. I hope there are more in-jokes that reward the attentive viewer. I loved the way Kramer toppled Fred Savage's table and they both had a really good sense of comedic play.

I thought the neo-Nazi detective (who was a real hoot, I thought) had covered Kramer's first name up with his hand...

I liked when George tells George Wendt that the "Cheers" bar setting was getting old, and they should change it.

The cop's hand covered up the spot where Kramer's first name would be. And there was some sort of clever way to not reveal the first name when Jerry was talking on the phone in the hotel room, asking around about Kramer. Although I can't seem to remember what that clever way was...I'll have to go back and watch it. Anyways, we know Kramer has a first name. Or assume. After all, his mom's name is Babs Kramer. Remember the episode where Kramer dresses up like the professor and Elaine poses as the jacket guy's daughter, so they can steal back the slick jacket? The landlord goes on and on about this loose woman, Babs Kramer. So naturally, Kramer, defending his mom's honor, attacks the guy. Great episode.

It's worse than that, even. In the shot where we can read the writing on the page, the cop's hand covers his first name, but when the camera backs off, we see that the page has been torn in about the right place to remove the part of the page that would have his first/middle names.

Did anyone else notice that when Kramer holds up his treatment in the coffee shop before approaching Fred Savage there is a title only, no "A movie treatment by ... Kramer"?

Am I seeing things that don't exist, or was there a distinct takeoff of Twin Peaks in last night's episode. I'm referring, of course, to the whole FBI storyline. It just seems too coincidental to have several wilderness-type scenes, a dead blonde girl, and an abrasive FBI agent in charge. Am I just experiencing Twin Peaks withdrawal symptoms?

I didn't follow Twin Peaks carefully enough to answer your question, but my firsst impression of that scene was that it was a scene from a movie or tv show that was being shot. It took me a while to accept that this was "happening in real life", so to speak. I think the overdramatic acting was meant to poke fun at LA types (please forgive the stereotype), and that perhaps the police force is made up of out of work actors.

There's an excellent new Garry Shandling Show on HBO, and I heard that Michael Richards is going to guest-star on an upcoming episode.

The Shandling show (it's called "Larry Sanders" or something) is about what goes on behind-the-scenes at a Letterman-style talk show. I've only seen three episodes, but they were hilarious.

Anyway, they have all sorts of real celebrities playing themselves, and rumor has it that Kramer has shot his episode already, though it hasn't aired yet. The show is on Saturday nights at 10:30 on HBO. Check it out.

George was way out of character in an awful lot of scenes in the last episode. Did you notice the blatant imitation of Shatner as Captain Kirk? He did that backstage with George Wendt and Corbin What's His Name.

Pretty funny episode...seemed a little "overacted", especially on George's part...he was extra-explanatory and loser-hyper.

No Elaine...hmmm....she must be a bit large right now :^)

I think Part II will be a bit funnier, since it'll focus on Kramer and his predicament...that "audition" sequence knocked me off the couch!!
