Funniest character

Wich one do you guys think is the funniest charactor on the show, besides the four main ones that we all love?

i think it's whithout a doubt Jackie Childes.

I was always partial to Putty. I didn't like him at first, but now he cracks me up.

Hey! Frank Costanza--Funniest Character...that proves it!

Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara (Ben Stiller's parents) were a very funny team in the 60's and were as popular as Mike Nichols and Elaine May. They appeared on the Variety shows of the time such as Ed Sullivan and Stiller and Meara did a number of radio commercials. They never hit the big time and, although married, each pursued his/her own career goals.

Jerry co-stared in "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" with Walter Mathau while Anne Meara co-stared in "Lovers & Other Strangers" with a marvelous cast including Gig Young, Bea Arthur, Cloris Leachman and pre-"Godfather" actors Richard Castellano and Diane Keaton.

Anne then went on to a weekly series with "Archie Bunker's Place." Jerry found his niche on Seinfeld as Frank Costanza and was one of the most disappointed cast members when the series ended. Jerry Stiller had several more "Seinfeld" seasons in him. Funny guy !

Many of the secondary characters had their moments, and you can't go wrong mentioning Puddy, Peterman, or Newman, but for my money, nobody tops Frank Costanza........

that's another reason seinfeld is so great; the secondary characters were never wasted. find me another show where big laughs are mined from as many bit characters as seinfeld. no one mentioned bania and he's definitely one of my favorites. tied with the brilliant jakie chiles. frank costanza, puddy, newman, even the guy who couldn't remember elane are all a close 2nd.

I consider him (Fred?) a "minor" (nonrecurring) character, but I agree he's hilarious. Anyone know the name of the actor?

The character (one time appearance I believe) was Fred Yerkes played by stand up comedian Fred Stoller. He was a weird one for sure. He could remember the "X" and "O" pattern of a TicTacToe game but could not recall the lovely Elaine who was at the same party. Poor Fred or poor Elaine?

I think that Estelle (Harris) Costanza will be forever remembered in comedy history for the expression "treating your body like it was an aMUSEment park!". Overall, though, the Academy Award for best secondary carachter should, of course, go to Crazy Joe Davola. No contest, really. "There's a hair on my tongue..."

Peterman was good, and Georges boss at Kruger was good "I locked my keys in the office again, well, time to go home" Newman was good, its a tough call.

I previously gave my vote for funniest minor character to Library Investigator Bookman; funniest secondary character to Newman.

But there seems to be something in between: a character who recurs but not as often as the secondary characters. Whatever we call this, hell, I'll cast my vote for Jackie Childs (however you spell it). He is great.

Yes, Bookman is certainly right up there at the top, amongst the "minor" (one-two appearances) characters. That episode also includes the man of atomic wedgies and baked bean teeth: Mr. Heyman. We must not forget him when the top list is put together.

And I always longed fanatically for the return of Cynthia (The Fix-Up; episode 33). Fell instantly in love with her.

I think we need to decide on maybe 10 characters apart from the main foursome, and then (if it is possible!) rank them.

The characters who should be there without question are: Puddy, Newman, Frank, Bookman, Jackie Chiles, and Kruger.
