READ - THE FAQ -

There seem to be a lot of new posters here recently and that is very good however many are asking questions that have been answered many times before. Since Dave(ratboy) is off watching Spring Training, and March Madness, I will post the FAQ here from time to time. Please read it before posting. It makes the nature of the discussions better.

I'm one of 'em, and I must say, that I got rather amazed at that there were SO many postings daily. It's something about 30+ daily postings, and, if you wanna compare it to another NG, alt.tv.profiler (only) has approx 20 messages a week! And that's a show currently on air. Also, the alt.tv.mwc NG has about the same flow as this NG, even tough that (too) is a rather old show. I guess, the bigger the group, the more fans there are altogether. Just my 2 cents.

New posts are great! As an alt.tv.seinfeld subscriber of several years, I'm tickled to see new people showing up. Anyone who wants to talk about the show is absolutely welcome regardless of their opinions. It's just that answering the same questions over and over again can be a drag. It's not new folks' fault, they didn't know the question has been asked repeatedly if they just got here.

That's the reason I decided to write the Seinfeld FAQ in the first place, so instead of retyping answers to questions I've (or someone else has) already answered previously, I can just point people in the right direction. Now, if after reading the FAQ, you still have questions then, by all means, bring them on. Good questions will be included in subsequent revisions of the FAQ, and anyone who provides a good answer to a new question will have their name mentioned in the FAQ as well.

You should have been here last year. During the hubbub preceding the final episode, this group received hundreds on posts a day. It was a madhouse!

It's not just TV show newsgroups either. I subscribe to a variety of sports related groups as well, groups that reach both extremes. the Florida Marlins newsgroup averages about one post per day, while the New York Knicks newsgroup gets about 100-150 posts per day depending on whether there was a game that day or not.

It's a measure of the popularity of the subject, and the number of fans with Usenet access who have the time/inclination to converse on Usenet. Why no Marlins posts? 1. The team sucks. 2. There's lots of other stuff to do in South Florida. 3. Why bother posting if only one or two other people will see it?

Still, a relatively quiet newsgroup is better, to me, than a very busy
group.  You can read what EVERYONE has to say, you don't need to SCREAM
to have your thoughts noted, and the trollers tend to avoid the slow
groups.
