The thing is if you watch a lot of the episodes you see where they often poke fun at different minority groups. Just look at the "Cigar Store Indian" episode. They did much worse stuff in that one. Besides, Kramer was trying to put out the fire on the PR flag not burn it as they were all claiming the next day. Most of those protesting it never even saw the episode...or any Seinfeld episode for that matter. I heard some Puerto Ricans saying that Jerry was burning the flag, which we all know is totaly untrue.
I am not From the Us but it looks like every single group or minority is pretty touchy about someone talking about them...
My parents are from Pakistan and i didn't feel bad about the Babu bhat Chararcter...
I was actually Laughing out loud about that man and from time to time about the Indian/Pakistani cab drivers who apeared on the show...
As far as i remember in the Purto rican episodes , there weren't anything really "against" this minority; i recalled Elaine saying that the PR will dance all day because the're like taht..(Sorry in France no reruns so i can just use my memory..)
And burning the flag? It was on fire!!! Kramer had to do sth!
I wonder why the gay minority didn't say sth about the two gay men (You know the ones who stole the french "Armoire" Kramer was "Guarding" for Elaine...and kept thugging The K-Man about the Aids red ribbon and the flag....)
So what's the big deal about this Pr episode? Can anybody Explain me? Is it really that case sensitive?

PS : When i wrote taht i was not from the US i didn't mean any bad stuff, my meanuing was that Here in Europe there isn't such a problems with any related or similar subject (Probably Europeans are too open minded...)
It's nothing everybody is so tight assed here and just want to bitch about anything no matter how stupid it is. NOthing happened on tht show and peole atht got mad what ever culture they are in any case of something like this shows how most need to get a life and get off there asses and stop bitching about worthless crap. I have this show on tape from th efirst airing. Nothing was wrong. Everybody so damned worried about being so PC and affraid to say anything TV just i not funny any more. I'm not talking anybody making a bunch of belittling jokes about a culture as saying something just anything. Even if the name of aculture said now somebody says something racist was ment by it. Grow up people if you think this way. It just TV and nothing was siad.
Hmm, I disagree. Sure, there are incidents like the The Puerto Rican Day where "the suits" apologize over a non-issue, but there is plenty of edgy programming. Take this season's "Action" series--hilarious, and very non-PC. Too bad the ratings didn't reflect its quality. Movies, too, are constantly pushing the edge of acceptibility.

You are correct in what you are saying. In the USA (and here in Canada) each minority and even majority group has some organization that wants to flex their muscles every once in a while. They do this be taking on some highly popular event or person when there is even the slightest hint that they have been offended. This gives the group tremendous publicity, increases their membership and gives them the illusion of action. It is much better for them than taking on real discrimination where it is less in the public eye. NBC and Seinfeld did the correct thing by totally undermining their proposed boycott campaign by pulling the plug on the one episode. It wasn't all that good an episode anyway compared to the 179 other gems. I of course have a tape of the episode and can be cavalier about the censorship.
Seinfeld of course did a terrific parody of the groups that were calling his show racist (no blacks etc.) in The Yada Yada when he portrayed himself as an anti-dentite! BRILLIANT STUFF!!!!

I can't really explain it, all I know is that the next day a large number of Puerto Ricans were protesting outside the NBC studio in NY demanding the network cancell the show. As if NBC was about to take off the top rated show in the country which by the way only had one or two episodes left anyway. At the time I was working with two Puerto Rican men who told me "Jerry Seinfeld disrespected the Puerto Rican People". After questioning them on this, I soon learned that they had never even watched the show. They were just all caught up in this 'Jerry Sienfeld hates Puerto Ricans' thing. I tried explaining to them what happened with the flag and how it was funny...But I got nowhere. They WANTED to believe that Jerry set the PR flag on fire himself just to disrespect their people.

That's the problem with liberals...they don't know how to think.
I wonder if there was any saving of "The Puerto Rican Day Parade" episode?
How about they just edit out the part where Kramer stomps on the flag? As I recall, he lights his cigar as he is leaning on Jerry's car, and waving the match, he drops it behind him into Jerry's car, (real smart, even for Kramer). Then Maroon Golf starts laughing, and Kramer picks up the burning flag, flings it on the sidewalk and stomps on it, putting it out. Then the two Latka and Simka boyz start harrassing Kramer, asking him "did you do what I thinks you was doing, because I saw what you were doing, yadda yadda." Then Kramer runs away.
If Castle Rock does that, then they can avoid showing the flag stomping. As I recall, the most controversial part of it was that Kramer was stomping on it while it was burning, having cut away from the part where Kramer picks up the burning flag he set on fire by mistake. Yes I know the whole thing is a mistake and a joke, but let's try to be sensitive here.
So for the new person who has never seen the episode, sees Kramer pick up the burning flag by mistake. We don't see him put it out. When they cut back to Kramer, the two ruffians can be talking to him, because as I recall, they don't verbally mention Kramer stomping on the flag! The two thugs could be just yelling at Kramer for having a burning flag, and we all know it's a mistake, a good intention gone bad! (But really, if I were in Kramer's shoes, I and probably many of us would try to put out the flag the same way, it's the safest!)
So editing the episode this way, the plot still makes sense, it avoids the unpleasant scene of Kramer stomping on the burning flag which let's face it was really the worst of the slap in the face, (the biggest was that it wasn't that funny a scene), and the New York 4 can get even more money from residuals! Castle Rock could run it by the Puerto Rican Day Parade officials to see if it would pass muster.
