Recently I haven't enjoyed Seinfeld reruns as much as I used to. I'm pretty sure this is because I've been noticing the laughtrack more. I mean, yeah, much of Seinfeld is pretty funny. But there are tons of lines in the show that aren't funny, but still have a laughtrack for some reason. I remember last night's rerun -- the one where Jerry and Elaine stay at Jerry's parents house, and Elaine sleeps on the bed with the bar, the parents don't know how to turn on the AC, and Jerry takes the guy's pen. Among countless non-funny lines with a laughtrack, I made a mental note of this one, just so I could cite it as an example in this post: Jerry's dad said at the beginning of the episode something like: "Why do people take your scotch tape, and then never return it?" The laughtrack was fairly huge for that one. That line wasn't funny at all.
The DVDs should let you disable the laughtrack. Or I won't buy them.
