As discussing the Good Samaritan ealier this week, would you stand around and watch, like they did OR would you help? Can we have a poll on this?

Personally I, would NOT help. (Yeah, I know I'm mean, but what can I say, I'm a bitch! hehe)

We had a situation just like this in Holland like a year ago when some kid saw a couple of guys trashing somebody's bike and he asked the guys to stop doing that so they attacked him and as a result they killed him....

That law IS a crock. Any lawyer worth his stock would have knocked so many holes in it there's no way the NY4 would have lost. Chiles is a terrible attorney! And letting all the 'character' references in is a crock too and the Judge Vandelay is a terrible judge for allowing it... but I digress. You cannot be forced to help someone, especially someone with a gun who could take you out.

Now the NY4 should have called the police on the cell phone asap when it was happening, and that's probably what I would have done.

I wouldn't. Do you know that here in Portugal, if you see an accident and if you stay near that person by the side of the road (car crash, ran-over...) you are considered GUILTY until proven otherwise? In real life what happens is you wait for the police to arrive and then the see that it was not you that made the damage. But it's a stupid law anyway... I would just make an anonnymous phone call to the police...

I'm from Portugal and I never heard such a thing. It's not that linear. Besides, that was a mugging not an accident. But what matters here is that approaching a delinquent holding a gun can hardly be considered "reasonable".

I know it was a mugging... I was just presenting a case in witch I would not help. Besides, I did answer... And there is that law here - if you call the police after an accident that you didn't have anything to do with, you have to wait until the police arrives and you are considered as being envolved until proven otherwise. And that is the actual law - very linear, really! :)

Then I guess my own experience assisting in traffic accidents is just my imagination, and the cops who showed up are really nice guys or just don't know the law. Yeah, that's possible. :)

Didn't understand what you meant by that... are you a paramedic? If you are, good for you, that's a nice job! But you still don't understand what I mean...you keep on intepreting it wrong... and I am not going to write it all over again. Maybe the law changed in a year or so (in Portugal everything is possible...), and it still was a stupid law to pass in the first place, but I just wanted to state how silly it is/ was. If you STILL don't understand just write to me in our language, because I think it's a comunication problem. Bye...
