My brother says that JLD is not good looking and when she was on Seinfeld, they did a good job of hiding her ugliness by using the right lighting. Does anyone agree with that statement?

I don't trust photos. Photographers are too good these days. I would have to see her in person.
She was on SNL before Seinfeld. To play in a show like that, you have to make parodies and ugly faces all the time, something really good lookin' girls don't usually do (I mean there are so much other options for them).
So my guess is that she's not that good lookin'. But she would be all right for me cause she's funny and to me that beats all the boring top models you could think of.

I seem to be the only one who disagrees. However, I think she is so pretty. I hated the wall of hair but once they started doing her hair differently, she was so cute! I'm a girl and I would rather look like her than any actress or singer (sarah jessica parker...ugh).

Nope, not the only one--I think JLD is incredibly attractive. Sure, everyone has their "off" days, but that doesn't detract from her overall beauty.
Even with the right lighting, she was not a good looking woman. I thought she was over-matched playing Elaine. Ms Dreyfus had neither the comedic skills nor the looks to be credible and was always the weakest link in the cast.

I rarely gush over anyone because I'm such a miserable cynic- but Dreyfus is easily in the Lucy/Carol Burnette class of female comedic actresses. She was perfect on that show. Perfect.
She ,may have been perfect for that part. but she wasn't asked to do the things that Lucy or Carol Burnett were asked to do in their work-- much more physical comedy than JLD ever had to do. The only "physical" comedy she had to do was the little kicks, and that ain't in the same category as the kind of comedy the other 2 did!
I dare say there are several actresses who could have played the part just fine-- of the three supporting characters, she had the least difficult role to fulfill, but she did it fine. Now, finding another Kramer, that would be difficult
Does that make her a not-so-good actress? Just because she had an 'easy' role? Now, good actors (and actresses) have to refuse easy roles in order to be appreciated to their fullest? I don't believe in this. She was perfect for the role because she played it perfectly.
I agree Kramer's role is harder, but then again, HE was perfect for the role but Micheal Richards could never have played George, for example. Then, who's the best supporting actor between those two?
I liked Kramer's role but I don't think he was a good actor, he was the same everytime I saw him on tv, on stage doing comedy, in movies (Trial & Error), etc.

Well, your kinda making my point for me while trying to disagree.
First, I didn't say she did a bad job-- rather that it wasn't a tough job compared to the other two supporting parts. So, sure, she did fine with it, but there are dozens of actresses who could have done that job (Just a thought-- maybe the writers didn't write her as goofy as the other two cuz she wasn't up to it? I don't know that, but the show sure relied on the goofiness of the supporting cast a lot).
As to your second point-- I agree, Michael Richards is unthinkable as George and vice versa, but it is difficult for me to think that there are dozens of actors that could have played Kramer as well, even if Michael Richards can only play that type of part. He may well only be able to play that kind of goof (I admit, I've seen him in a couple of movies and he was essentially doing the same riff in those), but that doesn't mean he wasn't great as Kramer-- clearly, he was. But there are few who could pull that off and make him a believable character.
As for Jason Alexander, well what can I say? He clearly is an actor of some skill, and although George is an incredibly disreputable character (even more so than Elaine IMO), he brought a quality to that part that made me feel some sympathy and affection for him. For me, he was clearly the best of the four on a "skill" basis, while Michael Richards had a quality that I don't think many other actors could have brought to that particular part. As to JLD-- fine, competent, but nothing others could have pulled off just as well.

I totally agree. They recreated all the characters poorly. Jerry himself became silly, George became an unsympathetic yelling pest and Kramer lost the "street smarts" that kept him a head above the crowd for the earlier years.
