Sloppy Joe (Hobo Joe)

I've searched the Google archives, it seems that this was never discussed before on ats:

I've always wondered if one the homeless in The Bookstore was a real homeless guy. As I recall it, his name in the credits looks like Sloppy Joe or something like this. Is that a joke or the nickname of a real homeless guy hired as an extra?

There is Rusty whom we all know. Then there is that guy who called himnself Potato Salad. And the other one ran off without saying anything, so he's not in the credits. Therefore, Potato Salad ought to be Hobo Joe, and his real name would be Sloppy Joe? The Government!

Why not just call the guy Potato Salad, though? It's easier than saying "the homeless guy in the episode with the rickshaw...no, not Rusty, the other one without a shirt."

But then again, that could cause some confusion between him and Vegetable Lasagna...

I will. My guess is that Sloppy Joe is a homeles form L.A. who happened to wander around the places where Seinfeld were often shooting outside scenes and they got to know him.
