I was just watching the Joel Rifkin episode. In the scene where Elaine is looking thru a football magazine for names for the guy to change his to, she says, "O.J.! How about O.J.?" (or something like that). Question: was this episode pre-OJ? It didn't seem like they were going for the OJ joke. If that is the case...with the other Joel Rifkin being a murderer and all..how ironic.

I'm almost positive it was pre-OJ and not an attempt at any kind of joke. I think it'f pretty funny too.

Yeah, I saw the episode and wondered about whether it was pre-trial episode or were the writers being ironic. After thinking about and remembering the shot of Lawrence Taylor (Giants linebacker), I think it was a pre-OJ episode as LT retired several years ago.

I thought of the same thing, but this was before the OJ Simpson commercial. It was in 1993. Remember Jerry said he hadn't vomited in 13 years and then mentioned that the previous time was July 29, 1980? Before that it was July 29, 1972. At any rate, 1993 was before the OJ Simpson trial. O.J. Simpson had long retired by then. This probably was a reference to either O.J. Anderson or O.J. McDuffie anyhow.
Was it not prescient that on Elaine's list of possible names for this boyfriend of hers was "O.J."?
Also, was the actor who played Rifkin (Anthony something I think) the same who played Henri the French guy on Cheers ("Oh Woody, I am going to steal your girlfriend.")?
That really is funny now but of course at the time OJ was still a sports hero. (PS does that reference count as an african-american on Seinfeld?)

That's what I thought too, but as it turns out that particular episode was filmed before the murder even occurred. It certainly looked set up though.
