Fans debate whether a character named Rachel represents a reference to Jerry Seinfeld's real-life friend Shoshana, based on physical characteristics and family background.
Somebody in this group had speculated whether JS will dare to include in the show a reference to his friendship with Shoshana. Could it be that the lovely Rachel may represent such a reference? 'Inquiring minds' would notice that the Rachel character was: 1, busty; 2, quite young (lived with her parents and her father was in charge of her dating); 3, her looks could be considered Middle Eastern-Jewish. Any comments?

I watched this episode (as well as Lois&Clark), but don't agree that Teri Hatcher is as busty as she's made out to be. Sorry, I don't see it. Sure, she's got a great body, but there are other women out there that are more deserved of the adjective "busty".

I'm glad someone else noticed this besides me. No one at work caught this similarity, and I thought I was going out of my mind. (Of course, if you ever saw the Seinfeld spoof on the Howard Stern New Years Eve special, you could never believe that Seinfeld would make any reference to Shoshona on the show).
I agree with the response prior to this one, that Jerry tends to get the busty middle-eastern looking girls (women), but THIS one was living at home with her parents. When her father answered the door and Jerry said, "Oh, hello Mr. . . . ." I could barely imagine what this must be like in real life. I think I read somewhere that Jerry just waits in the limousine in the street, and Shoshona comes down, or the driver goes and gets her. What a creep.

I'm not really honed in onto how Jewish people look (names, sometimes), but I did notice Rachel and how she was both busty and living with her parents. I think that they meant to do it. Oh well.

That one movie with Kevin Bacon definitely shows her attributes on a much larger scale. In the Seinfeld episode, they looked somewhat smaller. Maybe it was her clothes, maybe she got them reduced. At the beginning, even Elaine looked "bigger" than Sidra. They're both pretty ladies, that's for sure.

^^^^^^^^ the only thing we know about sidra's breasts are that they are real and spectacular. no mention of size anywhere.
In case anyone missed it, the gal who played Rachel was also Billy Campell's co-worker Cecilia at the magazine in "Melrose Place."
I think it's fairly obvious too that Rachel Goldstein is a Shoshana hint. I figure it's the writers throwing a friendly jab at Jerry and the logistics of dating a college freshman who lives at home. I think it's an excellent sign that Jerry's willing to play along and have fun with it.
(Not like Jerry has go to Shoshana's door and meet her dad, he just sends a limo for her.)

I took it as more of a Shakespearean gag - Rachel and Jerry as Romeo and Juliet. Parents on both sides obstructed their romance. And there is a cultural precedent - that whole operatic barber show.
