Is George a Christian?

After all the questions about who's Jewish, how about George? Is he a Christian (at least in name only)? His praise of Christian rock as being positive isn't much to go on (especially if he's using it as an excuse to bash those 'hip rock stars').

He's Latvian Orthodox.

News flash: Judaism is a religion, "Italian" is a nationality. The two are not interchangeable.

This just in. A Jew is 1.a person descended, or regarded as descended, from the ancient Hebrews of Biblical times. 2.a person whose religion is Judaism. He converted to Latvian Orthodox from whatever he was before. Since Frank is Italian, one would assume that the family's religion is Catholicism. There are born-again Jews, there are born-again Catholics, there are born-again Christians. All acknowledge that they were once dead(in their sins),but now live(in Christ). Not a bad deal, it's free.

Since Frank Costanza is a member of the Knights of Columbus a roman cathloic organazation i would think that George is Cathloic but he did convert to Latvinan Orthodox.

Jewish - religion Italian - nationality

Of course, one can be a Jewish Italian (or an Italian Jew)

In "The Strike", Frank says that Festivus began when he didn't get a doll for George ON CHRISTMAS, not Hanukkah. So therefore, unless they're Jews who celebrate Christmas, George is a Christian.

Seriously now, just because one celebrates Christmas does not make them a Christian.... But George definitely is not Jewish.

EpikDave is right in that one does not have to be Christian to celebrate Christmas. However, if one DOES celebrate Christmas, they are definately NOT Jewish. Unless George converted, he is not a Jew. Also, for those you did not see the connection: Italian - Italy - The Vatican - The Pope - Catholic. No, it's not a garuantee that George is Catholic - but it's something.

Frank Costanza sold religious articles in Korea, and belongs to the Knights of Columbus. You MUST be Catholic to belong to this organization. Jerry Stiller is Jewish which is why someone posted that his mannerisms are Jewish. I was born and raised in NYC, and there are many Italian Catholics married to Jewish people (also other nationalities) The children are usually raised as Catholics, if the Catholic spouse is practising, but the Jewish religion believes that the children should be raised in the mother's religion. It seems to me that Frank is Catholic and Estelle is Jewish, and George is nothing! Of course Estelle could be Catholic but the actress could be Jewish just like Jerry STiller. Does it really matter? Except that as a former NYer I knew a lot of people like that when I was growing up, and yes, NYers will go out of their way to go to a certain bakery, no matter what their religion or nationality. Hope you don't mind this long post, but I enjoy reading all your comments!

When was it said that George 'celebrates' Christmas? There was a comment about a Christmas present he didn't receive - but Jewish people receive Christmas presents from Christians and they are usually accepted with politeness. In an office environment it probably is normal for a Jewish person to give small gifts to coworkers (although they are usually not donations to charities that don't exist). But celebrate?

No, he can't be a "Festivan" because Festivus isn't about religion at all. It's about bitterness and the disappointment that everyone has caused you throughout the year. Come to think of it...that last statement sounds like most religions. 'Feats of Strength' are a classic though.
