Question

Fans speculate about a rumored new cast member after hearing a mention in an NBC promo, with theories ranging from replacing Newman to adding an annoying child character.

On one of those ubiquitous plugs NBC is running for Seinfeld, I thought I heard Jerry say something about a new cast member. Did anyone else hear this (I would have thought it would have been mentioned on the newsgroup by some of the Seinfeldistas--no, how bout Seinfelders?)

Anyone?

Well, Wayne Knight (Newman) has a new series on NBC, so perhaps they are going to replace him, with another equally eccentric character who lives in the building.

Wayne Knight was on "The Edge" on Fox while doing "Seinfeld" so he could probably do the same with his new show.

But, I was watching the rerun of JA on SNL and there a promo with Jerry dressed as "Pat" from SNL.

Jerry: "Well, you might know me as the character Pat on 'Saturday Night Live'
but this fall I'll be joining cast of 'Seinfeld' at its new time...
and by the way, Pat is a man."

So, what Greg probably heard was a joke commercial similar to this one. I would wait until we have more solid info.

I believe that they're going to introduce an annoying little kid. It's required within the first four seasons of any network sitcom. FCC rules you know.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the saving graces of Seinfeld is that it is a sitcom WITHOUT ANY ANNOYING LITTLE KIDS!!! AARRGGHHH!!! say it isn't so!!!

I heard something like a little kid also, and that they would have his father (infrequently appearing ) would be the guy who played on taxi as Jim Ignatouski. My source is usually 50% true, but I sure hope he's right. Tom DePew | [email] Work: 916 785-8091 __o

A little kid. Can you say "Death of a sitcom?"

-Mark

Waiting for the Fall of 1995 when I can watch the kid-less 'Seinfeld' episodes in syndication.

Wait a minute... a little kid? This is just a rumor, right? There's no way in hell they'd actually do it... right?

You're 100% right about little kid=death of a sit-com. It seems that every time that a sit-com is in its waning days, and really should be cancelled, bingo! A "cute" kid is added. Of course, there're also cases where SEVERAL kids are added, often at painful intervals (perhaps worst offender was "My Three Sons"). Anyway, I hope and pray that Jerry would never do that. It just doesn't seem kis style (thank God).

All this talk of kids ruining a sitcom -- it misses the point. It isn't the kid that kills the sitcom; the sitcom is dying already by the time the netowrk puts the kid in, in order to try to rescue the show.

Now, unless you believe that Seinfeld is dying as a show, you shouldn't worry about having a kid put into it. Don't you have any faith that these marvelous writers and such will be able to incorporate a new character in an appropriately humorous manner? I do.

How true about the small child, and how every show needs one according to the FCC :) I think the only shows on TV w/o a kid is SEINFELD and COACH, both of which are great! I hope they don't bring in an "adorable" kid.

Northern Exposure, but one may be on the way.

Well Murphy Brown did fine for many a year before they brought on the baby. Northern Exposure as no "cute" kids either. Just goes to show that YOU can have a good show without some litte bratty child.

Ummm...kids, this started as a joke. Remember? It was just a throwaway line.

So this is how ugly rumors get started.

Err, hate to tell ya, but Shelly Vaincoeur will be squeezing out her little ove-child in February sweeps. AND Christine Fox is going to make quite an effort to convince Hayden to sire another child (reports do not confirm or deny whether she will be successful).

I bet, though, that "Murder, She Wrote" won't soon be getting a recurring child character. Just a guess...

Hell, Angela Lansbury goes through enough diapers already.

What's with this, anyway? I watched the season premieres of Roseanne, Coach, and Home Improvement, and in *all three* shows, the wives told the husbands they want to have a baby. A conspiracy by the folks at ABC?

What about the new sitcoms? They all have 3 kids, a conspiracy buy all networks? ;-)
