Susan, (Heidi Swedberg)?

Has it been discussed here, or elsewhere, why her character was written off the show?

Anyway it didn't make a whole lot of sense that George insisted on the cheapest invitations. Susan was the one that was gainfully employed and the Rosses were very wealthy ("and the townhouse, no"), so he most probably wouldn't have been the one paying for the invitations.

Admittedly her voice isn't of the most pleasing quality, nevertheless didn't she audition for the part, and against some serious competition at that? Perhaps the people in charge of casting and offering jobs believed her poorer voice quality more suitable for the role than other's. In any event they knew what they were getting and there being no surprises, I seriously doubt any such possibility.

Truly, she didn't become shrill until right before the wedding.

Though she did break the Bubble Boy's bubble.

I believe she was written off the show because the writers were sick of having George dating the same annoying bitch forever. It gets old after a while in a show like Seinfeld, they needed a change of pace, so they killed her.

I guess the writers wanted to keep the show centered around the adventures of 4 singles, and not 3 singles and a married couple. The only way out would have been for George to break up with Susan once again and all the show's break ups were becoming stale material. Her demise opened up the opportunity for them to exploit new subject matter, which in fact they did.

A married Seinfeld character would have never worked. Also it's great how nobody really even cares when Susan dies. This is what made Seinfeld so great, they removed all of the phony serious moments that all other sitcoms have, it was a show about four jerks who didn't really care about anybody else.

How about the volunteer work with the senior citizens, (didn't George say signing up for it made him feel good?) or signining up and going on an AIDS walk? I think that shows caring about someone else.

True, but didn't they all actually end up with the same selfish behavior with these "charitable" behaviors:

1. Aids Walk- Kremer up all night, playing poker, andf when it comes time for the walk,, he won't wear the ribbon.

• Aids Walk- Jerry gets Nina's phone number from an Aids Walk list

3. Senior Citizens- George gets his bald head dipped in hot oil, Kremer and Newman take the old records that belonged to the senior that George was supposed to be spending time with.

4. George talking ot other senior citizen at Monk's asking how the sr. gets through knowing he's so close to the end?

5. Elaine is totally bored talking to her senior companion until she finds out the senior woman had an affair with Ghandi, and how the goiter made it hard for her to talk to her senior partner?

Maybe Susan wanted to go back to being a lesbian character on the show and the writers didn't think that was such a good idea- so they got rid of her character. After all, George drives women to lesbian-ism! (and yes, Kramer brings 'em back!). Phil

it's all about human nature: the show magnifies the volatility of human nature between wanting to do good (or wanting to seem to wanting to do good) and falling short on the reality of selfishness. That's the very genius of the show. That's also why the "finale" was not so funny.
