Almost every newspaper gave it excellent reviews, but almost every newsmagazine gave it mediocre reviews. I haven't seen a really bad review except for USA Today.

OK, so USA Today voted thumbs down. Could folks let the rest of us know what other critics said?

Yeah, I've read about three and only USA today was negative so far.
-Entertainment Weekly was disappointed, but they didn't think it was a very bad episode.
-USA Today hated it.
-The big New York Papers (The Times, The Daily News, The Post) loved it.
-Newsweek Loved it.
Generally, the Seinfeld finale got a mixed reaction. Some people hated it with a vengance, while some people loved it. But that's okay, its good for discussion. It would be pretty weird if the finale became so fixed-up so that everyone hated it, or that everyone liked it.

The fact that the episode got such decidedly mixed reviews in both the media and this newsgroup--not to mention my friends and other people I run into on the street--indicates something went wrong somewhere. If it were divided down the line of longtime fans and newer ones it would be different, but this newsgroup has proven that was NOT the case.
It got a "down" arrow in the "Conventional Wisdom Watch" column in Newsweek. The line called it an "unspongeworthy bore". It also said "For cast future, see M*A*S*H".

Huh? Did ya read USA Today days prior to the finale? Obviously not. They devoted quite a bit of space to the "pop craze" over Seinfeld's exit.
Newspaper reviews are just one person's opinion. My friends can usually guess whether I will or won't like a movie/band/TV show or anything else; a single mdeia critic rarely does much for me.
