Seinfeld will be back next year. They are just taking a year off. Jerry said "It's only a year...we'll be out in a year, then we'll be back." The joke is on you!

Or he could be playing the joke on us by leading us on.He PURPOSELY said that to cause a stir. That wasn't normal dialogue they would have in jail. Its meant for speculation which has always made the show the greatest ever.
