Hello everyone. Allow me to apologize for making references to the scripts of "Seinfeld".
In my experience, all things related to a newsgroup's title (minus the vulgarity), are welcomed by its members.
The series ended over 7 years ago. Shows starring Seinfeld actors have failed. It seems to me that the newsgroup would be very quiet without the aforementioned types of posts.
<Yawning> and being placed in "kill files" will no longer be necessary.
Dont know you that well Er, unlike others might, I see that quite a few of the regulars dont live in the USA I take it. I dont know if you do or not. July 4th is our Independence Day....................Not talking about the book on Toy Ray Guns either BTW :)

I agree, but then I also really, really believe there is a pigman, I double-dip on occasion, put a glass on the edge of a table and certainly re-gift. And of course....I am THE hipster doofus and I am real and spectacular! Karen (Seven)
failed. It seems to me that the newsgroup would be very quiet without the aforementioned types of posts.
Think again, Longshanks...
Dave accomplishes two things here: 1) He gives a polite warning that his inane posts aren't going to improve any time soon, and 2) He gives himself free reign to continue posting whatever random line pops into his head, in the same redundant, unoriginal fashion. Ladies and gentlemen, a newsgroup loophole!
I don't know how long you've been on this group, Brian. But this used to be a pretty interesting group. Lots of people (who were interesting) just gave up when Dave and his ilk took over.
Sure, some people would intersperse an occasional line into their posts, and it was amusing. Now, the whole group is Dave wannabees, and it has turned into BY FAR the most dull, uninteresting, unfunny (let's face it, we all know the lines already and all these dolts do is repeat them) newsgroup on Usenet. Dave's pathetic excuses for why he will continue to do so just illustrates this man has fewer brains than an ant. That's being unkind to ants all over the planet..
It's really sad that the collective creativity of this group could now fit on the head of a pin with plenty of room to spare. I guess whoever said that their lives ended seven years ago when Seinfeld left the air wasn't far wrong.
Why do so many dumb people follow this idiot's lead? (BTW, ER used to be pretty clever and interesting, now has just another Dave wannabee. Sad, ain't it?).
And therein lies your problem. If you don't like what is being posted, post something you like. Giving up is hardly a solution. Nobody is stopping anyone from posting anything interesting. Of all the newsgroups I am subscribed to, Seinfeld is one of the very few where virtually every post is on topic (except for the spam). There is no fighting (up until now), no name calling, no political/religeous rants etc. you see on other newsgroups. So, you may not like certain posts, but at least they are about Seinfeld, and we should all be grateful about that.
<flattered> Oh... ah... hu-hahahahuha... au chantee....
On those points I agree. People here are generally friendly.
However, think about all the people who were regular posters (as I used to be) who just gave up in despair to the line-droppers. You are a fine example actually. Your posts used to be poignant, with an appropriate line dropped into a funny spot so it had some creativity and cleverness and (gasp) intelligence. Just randomly posting lines from a script any idiot can do- even Dave. Apparently that's all he can do.
And now so many are copying him that it seems perhaps 80% of all threads are just lines of script (and even I admit it is occasionally amusing when 2 lines from DIFFERENT scripts land next to each other appropriately. That is as far as "creative" goes on this group these days though. And it's rare as hen's teeth.)
If this group is populated by 20 something's, maybe that explains it. My guess is most people are in their 40s or older by now. And it's just damn silly (mostly). The intelligent topic is a thing of the past for the most part. I just think it's sad. (Bet a few lurkers who used to post way back when are nodding their heads right now as they are reading this). Pardon me for spouting off and having an honest gripe. And, I might add, a legitimate one.
I guess I wasn't very clear with my last post. My intention was to simply let everyone know that I will no longer be posting on this newsgroup (i.e.: "<yawning> and 'kill files' will no longer be necessary"). I'm assuming this will make most subscribers a lot happier.
Yes, I realize that we all know the dialogue - but for me, personally, incorporating script lines into often times silly posts is very funny - but apparently NOT funny to most, if not all subscribers.
Er makes a good point, too. He mentioned that (until now) there has been no fighting, etc. on this newsgroup, and the vast majority of posts have been ON TOPIC. As a subscriber to several different groups, this is quite a rarity. Hopefully, from this point forward, this group will return to its previous, benevolent state.
As an avid Seinfeld fan, I will, however, continue to READ posts, and I look forward to future discussions.

Well no one said "don't post. Why not try posting besides lines? You seemed to have over taken this group and now everyone (mostly everyone) just does line after line after line.... Man, it's tiring and frankly the same lines being repeated over and over again is just old beyond belief.
It isn't "just' you. There are a half dozen other people who's posts consist of NOTHING but lines from the scripts. 99% all threads the past year have been NOTHING but strings of lines over and over and over...
A line cleverly inserted into an INTERESTING TOPIC is 1000% appropriate. But, just look at the threads listed on this page. Look and see how many are just LINES AND LINES. It's dull. And, I know I am not the first person to bring this up-- I'm just a big enough pain in the ass to do so forcefully cuz I like to stir the pot a little-- and admit it.
That does NOT mean I wasn't sincere-- I was and I am. I'm just one person. But, I've seen several people bring this up-- and, honestly, I've gotten so bored with this group I rarely even read it--- just check in once in a while to see if anything's changed. I imagine I've missed a lot of things, including other complaints about the "line dropping". Matter of fact, I didn't read this newsgroup for probably six months I'd grown so tired of what it had become.
I think its too damn bad all the hard-line, long-term people no longer post here-- before I wrote that "dull" post 4 days ago I'd posted here one other time in the past year. I used to post every week, usually almost daily. As did a lot of others, all gone now, except Er, and he's 90% of time just line-dropping too. I PERSONALLY thing it's sad, and I SUSPECT the reason none of the old hard-liners post here anymore is because they, too, hated what's happened. I just chose to speak up.
I just don't understand this. If, a few years ago, you had enough... 'material'... to post something interesting on Seinfeld almost daily, what changed? You can't not have anything interesting to say because other people are just posting lines from shows, that's just not a valid reason. It's like... well, it's like something. It is not that there's a limit on the number of posts and the limit is taken up by people who are posting lines. If the rule is, we only post something interesting, or when something newsworthy happens, then this newsgroup would be dead like the Curb Your Enthusiasm group, which hasn't had a post now in a year. Seinfeld stopped, what, 8 years ago or something, and there is no news, there are no developments, no reunions. Just reruns, and this newsgroup reflects that.
I just seems hard for me to understand how you can complain about people posting SOMETHING while you yourself have posted NOTHING over the past year. It seems to me, SOMETHING is better than NOTHING.
It's a group about NOTHING. Doesn't everyone get that?
Craig, if you want some intelligent conversation, go to alt.intelligent.conversation or some such. I don't come here for the conversation. I have a half dozen other places to go for that. Frankly I do more actual laughing out loud here than all the other places combined. Whenever someone comes up with a line that isn't necessarily just the next in sequence (although I get a kick out of that) but fits the situation, just seriously cracks me up. Like "shouldn't you be out on a ledge somewhere?"
Moreover, it's a mental exercise for me. Although there may be some who post their responses with the script in front of them, the challenge for me is recall the appropriate line from memory and post.
Life is what you make of it. If you don't like the newsgroup because it has evolved away from what you liked, move on. To paraphrase, you're hung up on some newsgroup from the '90s, man.
You see? It's like I've been saying for years; everything in life was covered in a Seinfeld episode. It turns out this group was covered in every episode.
Well, I thought I stated my point succintly, but guess I did not.
This place used to be a place FOR INTELLIGENT discussion. It no longer is. It is why I stopped posting period. That is why, I SUSPECT, most of the old-time, intelligent posters also left. It has degenerated into a silly place without hope of any intelligent conversations If I were to post anything meant to be provocative it would just end up with a bunch of silly strings of script lines, so why bother. That is exactly why I don't, and why I mostly have even stopped reading here.
Sad to me. This was a great discussion group once. I'm sorry to see it go. But, you all enjoy your little script recitations and amuse yourselves. I will just go to the sidelines and not bother you anymore. (By the way, my initial "dull" post was meant to stir things up only. Dave's wish that I go die made me a bit mad. Thus, this string of posts/explanations about the general banality of this group as a whole. That was uncalled for...)
Funny how you try to make this group be something the original Seinfeld show, on which this group is based, never wanted to be. It was a show about NOTHING. That is the whole premise of the show, as LRod stated, and as such this newsgroup should be about NOTHING. When did you ever hear an intelligent conversation on Seinfeld the show? Isn't that what attracted us all to this show? It was about nothing, that is what made it different and fresh.
Seinfeld never wanted to teach lessons, have morals, inform or invoke. That's the idea. It's a show about nothing. Everyone was doing something, they did nothing.
Like LRod said, I am not looking for intelligent conversations here, I have friends and family I can do that with. I am here for a good laugh, and think about Seinfeld shows. When I read these lines, I can picture the images in my head, and laugh. That is all I am looking for. That doesn't mean I am not intelligent, or am in my 20's, or have nothing better to do. I just means I can use a good laugh when I get into work in the morning, that is all. That doesn't mean I do not appreciate the inteligent posts and informative ones. I do. Like I enjoyed the recent "Where did they film the rickshaw scene" conversation, and in the process we learned something about Manhattan, San Fransisco and LA. Great! We even got links to satellite photos of the street in question. I just have nothing to add, because a) I don't live in NYC, b) Don't live in LA and c) Don't live in San Fransisco.
Okay, have you watched the show? Whenever one of the cast members would try to bring up something serious or provocative, what did they get back in return? "You know, I'm thinking of getting a yoyo" or "Why does she takes so long to get a pair of underwear? You ask me, and I'm back in two seconds". We're merely mimicking the show here, nothing else.
I am sorry, but this newsgroup is very befitting the show.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go make love to your mother.
I don't really want to get into this discussion about what not to post on the group, but I have to comment on this point. Seinfeld wasn't actually about nothing, as I'm sure you know. And this would be an excellent topic for discussion. The show was about a lot of things -- in fact, it had a lot more going on than most sitcoms combined. The whole "nothing" thing came out of the "Jerry" show within the show. It's a very funny concept, to have a show about nothing. Somehow the idea that "Seinfeld" was also about nothing stuck.
I guess what I'm driving at is tha we shouldn't necessarily act like we're in the shallow end of the Seinfeld universe, to rewrite a cliche, at least not all the time. I'm sure part of what appeals to us with the show is that we frequently find ourselves in that place -- obsessing about fundamentally unimportant stuff. (There's a line there with the words "excrutiating minutia" I wanted tio use, but I don't remember it exactly...)
Well, it was not intelligent on one level, but absolutely brilliant on several others.
It became the motto in later seasons, I think...they stuck to the "no learning" part throughout, but hugs were given on several occasions in the early days.
To paraphrase, you're hung up on some newsgroup from the '90s, man.
Get life you fucking loser...yeah we all know the fucking script already. I imagine you do this shit at work all day too (assuming you can concentrate on work with all those Seinfeld lines buzzing around your head). I'd smash you in the fucking teeth if I had to hear that shit all day long.

No...I actually have a life..unlike some of you pathetic souls whose life ended when Seinfeld went off the air. It's you who'd I would expect to see out on a ledge. Karl Farbmann...real cute...you even pretend to be a character from the show. You must cry when you look in the mirror....fucking loser.
...Is the baby gonna cry like that? Is that how the baby cries, with the loud, sustained, squealing cry, 'cause that could pose a problem. Do you have any control of your (INNER) child 'cause this is the time to exercise it when baby is crying in that high-pitched, squealing tone that can drive you insane?!!!
You're not only internet brave you're internet smart. It wouldn't take a real smart person 30 seconds to figure out that A) I don't live with my mother, and 2) I live in FL where there aren't any basements.
Is that and your adolescent potty mouth all you have? Is your blather somehow better than script references? You've turned into quite the positive contributer to a.t.s.
Did you need me to tell you that by using Bell South that you live in Florida or did you prefer that I get my clues from reading your webpage talking about how you play with wood?
I chose to move on Rod...find a Seinfeld script reference that will allow you to do the same.
Yes! This is what we should be talking about. This could be the newsgroup, just talking. You know, we hang out at the west side of the newsgroup with Seinfeld all day and just waste our lives. Maybe we should talk of other things. Dave, how was your day today? Er, did you get over your heartburn? I have some Milanta in my cabinet, I'll drive it over if you need it. LRod, I've been having trouble fashioning a mortise and tenon joint and was wondering if I will master it in time by trial and error, or if I need some hands-on experience by a seasoned professional. And what's the deal with nuclear physics? Does anyone understand either of those things? Put them together and they just boggle my mind. Any comments?
The nerve of some people. Talkin' about ya behind your back--and right to your face! It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous.
