I recently visited NY. Specifically, Brooklyn. I've always been a big fan of Seinfeld and always wondered if people in NY really act like they do on his show. Well, NY was everything I expected. Yes, New Yorkers seem to have a lot of the same traits I see on Seinfeld. I wasn't disappointed. To me, visiting NYC is just like watching an episode. I recommend visiting for anyone who enjoys the show!
My hat is off to the Seinfeld cast. All they seem to do is act like your average New Yorkers and America LOVES it!
Yeah! Agreed in full. I visited NYC for the first time myself just last month. I stayed in Queens with a family friend, in fact, and I thought, "yead, I could see the Costanza's living here." And Jerry living in Manhattan. And, ever notice how the gang tends to be very precise about naming places to go (e.g., restaurants) -- how they always know streets to the letter? And how about the characters' frequent references to transportation logistics:
"No one hails a cab like me." --George "Oh, I don't want to take the subway back all the way from QUEENS." --Elaine "Maybe you should show the baby the parking spot." --George "There's no rush hour in New York. People go every direction all of the time." --Jerry "So now I'M driving the bus!" -- Kramer
I definitely feel like I knew a lot about NYC from watching the show, which says two things:
This reminds me of a notice that I saw in the Newark(NJ) Star-Ledger for an outing by the Maplewood,NJ Camera Club to Chinatown, a ghetto in New York City that is populated by many Chinese people. I suggested to a friend of mine (whose parents lived in Maplewood, a comfortable NJ suburb) that I saw a notice for the Chinatown Camera Club mentioning a trip to scenic Maplewood, New Jersey.
The point: who wants some geek from the sticks roaring with laughter whenever he hears someone on the streets of New York say, "Jerry, you've GOT to see the baby!"
As a native New Yorker, I can tell you that that is the way some of the city is. Brooklyn used to be much more like that but it is not anymore. Anyway, Seinfeld is a great show. Remember: "I know...Deloris"
