Chinese Woman Episode

I would like to nominate, as one of the underappreciated best episodes, the Chinese Woman episode that was on rerun last night. This episode doesn't give us any new words like, yadayada, no catch phrases. But the level of acting was very high, I thought. Recall the scene where Jerry and Donna Chang are in his apartment. She says something like " I rike that very much," He notices that she had said something in a (stereotyped) Japanese accent. And he just stops. No snide comment. Just stops. Probably for a full 15 seconds ( a long time for silence to go on in a sitcom). Recall also the scene, also inthe apartment, when Kramer comes in and they realize he isn't wearing underwear. You can watch the realization creep over their faces. Man, I can watch this stuff over and over.

I agree! Even the most lightweight episode has a number of subtle touches that you might not catch the first time if you look away for a second! When someone is over watching it with me and then they leave and I watch it again there are all kinds of things I missed because they laughed or talked. Episodes have to be watched with your whole attention. All of the actors are brilliant at reacting - even some of the guest stars are. You won't see this kind of quality in "Suddenly Susan" or "Ellen" or "Mad About You". I've compared them and as Sally would say, "Snoozers!". (By the way, the funniest guests like Sally should definitely be brought back for the finale).

I remember when I started watching it in Jan. and it was new to me. I told my daughter "It's so hilarious when Kramer slides into the apartment". She said "It gets old after awhile." (I guess it would after nine years, but I'm watching them daily for three months and I'm still mesmerized.) And that's nothing compared to the way Kramer always knows what someone is referring to immediately and reels back in shock. Then there is Elaine's little exaggerated pantomime with her hips when she says "The New Yorker".

This is a great Frank Costanza episode, he has so many quotable lines from Manhattan not having any mosquitoes to You want a divorce you got one!!. Frank to me is there funniest secondary character so I think this episode is the tops.

Also great was how the woman said her name-not "Donna Chang, but "Donnachang".
