Protest the removal of "The Puerto Rican Day"

Since it appears that "The Puerto Rican Day" will not be aired again because people can't take a joke, I say that those of us who would like to see it again e-mail NBC to tell them so. Send an e-mail to: [email] and tell them that you don't want "The Puerto Rican Day" to be taken out of the Seinfeld run.

(Be sure to specify that you are writing about Seinfeld, because it looks like it is an "all-purpose" feedback section, ie, not just for Seinfeld.)

Maybe if NBC and Columbia TriStar see that not everyone was offended by the episode, they will allow the episode to be aired again.

Could someone clarify for me what the objection was re The Puerto Rican Day? I didnt see any racism in this show? But then I never saw any discrimination in the one where Kramer was taken for a retarded person and people apparently objected to that too. How about people who pick their nose? I could see Nose Pickers Anonymous getting together and protesting. Did the pick show make you hate nose pickers? You could read it that it made fun of the shallownes of people who would allow one possible "pick" to end a relationship. Does this begin to sound like a ridiculous discussion? That's how I feel about all these kinds of paranoias. The show was not making fun of Puerto Ricans. It laughs at all human beings. I do think people cannot laugh at themselves. When I suggested elsewhere that we all have a little of these characters in us I got wild responses like that I myself am an example of someone who's been influenced by TV to go out and act like these characters. Just because I suggested I can see HUMANNESS in their flaws as well as their admirable traits. I believe all this business about people feeling all the characters got what they had coming for being so bad really involves people's fear of looking at their shadow side (their own unconscious) and seeing aspects of themselves that they might not be proud of and also a resulting fear that somehow the people watching this show are going to become harbingers of that "evil". The more you dont accept flaws in yourself, the more you project out on other people flaws that just arent there. Accepting doesnt mean you ACT OUT all the flaws. In fact it often prevents acting them out. THis is a typical reaction to repressing part of oneself. The great thing about this show (in addition to being a comic/artistic masterpiece) is that it makes us laugh at things that never get mentioned, that are usually hidden away. Also, since reading how"evil" these characters are, I've seen countless episodes in which they attempt to do good things (the recent one where Jerry buys a wig for the guy who is sick is just one example) and are victims rather than perpetrators. And in the last episode, the epitome of "evil", Newman, gets off scot free. The whole idea of evil being defeated is way off the mark. The show IS a comment on our times (It is NOT about nothing, by the way. That's ironic). It does expose the difficulties in our society today, but not in the form of the supposed evils of 4 characters. I think most of us identify with some of these characters (for myself, I identify with aspects of each one, not with any one character.) The finale is definitely out of character with the rest of the series.
