Episode 4 - Help!

   I have generally not been one of the more critical posters
on this newsgroup.  I thought the first three episodes this
season were fine, especially #3 last week.  However, the
30 minutes I have just finished watching have to qualify as
the low point of this series.  I generally do not take issue
with the subject matter, no matter how much it may be in
poor taste.  Tonight, however, it was just dull.
   Ever write a term paper the night before it was due?
That's what the writing was like.  It's like they looked at the
characters, picked the most obvious and easily used trait,
and slapped a situation on them.  Specifically, Jerry's
wishy-washy way of avoiding conflict; George's total sense
of self-deprecation; Elaine's arrogance; and Kramer's
enthusiastic embracing of schemes without regard for their
consequences.  These traits have given the series some of
their best episodes; in this case, they were used for really
dull stuff.  And they threw in George's father's feistiness
as a bonus.
   It was embarrassing.

You are correct, sir!! Actually, it was BEYOND embarrassing. I kept looking at the clock, waiting for it to end. I thought it never would. Thankfully, it did...after what seemed like an eternity, without even cracking a smile. Sad, sad, sad...

What I don't understand is how you said that the new season was lost in your previous post and now you are agreeing with this guy, (who I also think is clueless, but not as much as you). If you read the entire post, he says that the new season is not that bad. I think that he even calls them fine. So why do you say that he is right? Do you just blindly agree with other people, changing you opinions as you go along?

I agree, anyone who didn't like last nights episode should go out and get theirself a new sense of humour. George's dad rules!!! George will do anything to get a date, Elaine will do anything to ensure that she is accepted as the boss (in her mind), and Kramer and his wacky friends!!! What more could you ask for!!

I totally agree--I don't understand why everyone is praising this episode sucked. Elaine was annoying through the whole ep, right up to the fight with Frank Costanza, which I found stupid and unfunny. Jerry was at first not wanting to do the bootlegs, then all of a sudden he wants to" help bootleg-less kids" and to turn the bootleg thing into a big project, and then after that he doesn't want to do it again. I thought that was kinda strange. Worse than the first 2 episodes this season.

The characters have really gotten out of whack this season. I was hoping maybe George's parents would finally appear to save the show, but when Frank finally did appear it was sadly forced and unfunny.

To the people who are upset about the bashing of this season's episodes (I liked Bizarro Jerry and some of The Foundation; the other 2 sucked): We all loved this show in the past. We believe it was the greatest sitcom ever. That is why it is so disappointing to see the quality drop. Even though you disagree it should concern you that so many people are complaining. This never happened in the past. No one was complaining about The Bubble Boy or The Contest. There must be a difference.
