An awkward young girl named Delores
Who danced in a Las Vegas chorus
	Once mused as she flounced
	"Just how *is* it pronounced?
as CLIT-uh-russ or as clit-ORR-us?"

Ok, I have read lots of people say that they have heard it pronounced either way. Well, Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary list two possible pronunciations, and one of them would rhyme with Delores.

This should little ditty should be required,as in, "you can't register for this newsgroup until you've read and acknowledged this limmerick."

It would cut down on about 45 percent of the messages that are endlessly repeated in this ng.

I second that. I've never heard the limerick before, but it certainly does the trick.

Personally, during these "what was her name?" threads, I always think of a story that Dion (of "and the Belmonts" fame) told about his song, "Runaround Sue." He said that it was based on a girl from his neighborhood named "Delores," but he had to change her name for the song. Seems the only words that he could think of that rhymed with "Delores" were "Lavoris" and "clitoris." I doubt that this version of the song would have made it past the 1950s censors...
