It could have been worse. For most MASH fans, the last FOUR seasons sucked.

I totally disagree. I think that some of the funniest episodes were in the last two seasons. Actually, I think that all of the episodes are funny. Episodes in the eighth and ninth season like The Frogger, The Merve Grffin Show, The Voice, definitely The Nap, The Susie, The Comeback and The Chicken Roaster. If you use terms like "sucked ass", you must not be a real fan or just VERY immature.

Most of the episodes in the 8th season I at least liked with an exception of a few (like the dumb "The English Patient"), but the only episodes of the 9th season I liked were the following 7 out of 22: "The Butter Shave," "The Voice," "The Merv Griffin Show," "The Betrayal," "The Wizard," "The Burning," and "The Maid." I though the rest (especially the last one) pretty much sucked.

The only episode that I thought was remotly bad was the last one. I thought that it started out good but when they got arrested and thrown in jail, I was pretty disappointed. There was so many other things that they could have done.

See, I thought the way they ended the Finale was nice, but the way they got there (boring, pointless courtroom scenes) were boring and pointless. You see, the jokes in that part of the episode were supposed to come from past characters coming back and telling us stuff we already knew...I didnt buy it. But the way the ended it, with the last two scenes I think it was nice -although they could have found a better way to wrap up the entire series. It was so Un-Seinfeld, and the worst time to be so...

Larry David had about two days to write a script that somehow tied together a 9 year run AND included as many bit-parters from years past as possible, all after a 2-year hiatus from writing the show.

In retrospect it seems that a courtroom scene was the perfect way to accomplish this. Most any other way would make it seem as though the extra characters were superfluous and unnecessary and the episode would have probably garnered more criticism than this one did.

But I thought Larry David was contacted not too soon after the Christmas bombshell announcement by Jerry that it was his last year. And that Jerry virtually gave Larry carte blanche with little input from the other writers. Not sure where I read it, but several reputable magazines like Time, Newsweek and Rolling Stone detailed the making of the finale, so it may have been in one of those that I gleaned my info. So that would have given Larry several months to write the script, unless you have info I am not aware of.

Those scenes on the Merv set with Kramer taking himself so fucking seriously are some of my fav scenes from any season. Lay off the last seasons... it's enough already!!
