Hello Newman

My wife asked a Seinfeld question the other day that I couldn't answer. Was there a particular episode in the series that led to Newman and Jerry's animosity or was the mutual disdain just always there between those characters?

Newman's debut was in ep 32 "The Suicide." In this episode, their animosity was mutual and, apparently, already in full bloom. As far as I know, there was never an explanation as to why they hated each other.
