This morning I woke up, thinking about what I had to do today. And as a little mental aside, I thought, "Great, today is Tuesday, only two days 'til Thursday....oh! oh! shit !"
Since 1993, Thursday night is the only time when I can predict weeks, nay MONTHS ahead where I will be. Sitting in front of the tv at 9, waiting for Seinfeld. Never again Jerry, never again. Not only did I thrill to each new episode, the show provided a subject of mutual interest between my 21 year old son and I. All gone now.
What am I going to watch now? Frasier? Ha! The Nanny? Everyone Love Raymond? I do enjoy News Radio. Alley McBeal. And Homicide. But nothing compared to the four interweaving stories in each Seinfeld.
It was the Beatles of sitcoms. By that I mean they took four comic actors with medium talents, mixed them with great material, and found one of those situations where 1 + 1+ 1+ 1 = 26 1/2 !!! The whole is GREATER than the sum of the parts.
And just as with the Beatles, I am afraid that none of this Fab Four will ever do anything artistically that compares. And I am the poorer for that. (actually all of us are, but I only care about myself, sorry.).
Well, I've got a new bottle of NyQuil to ease the pain so it's off to bed. But my life will be a little emptier after this.
