I have always wondered about a scene in a seinfeld episode. The episode involves the impeachment of Jerry's father - Morty. The scene I was wondering about is the last/2nd to last one. In it, Jerry, Morty, and Jerry's mom are leaving Del Boca Vista. Just before Morty gets in the new cadallic that Jerry has bought him he turns around and half waves/salutes, then the car drives off. Is this a parody of a movie/TV show or some event in history, or not significant at all. I've always wondered about this. Thanks in Advance.

Fans identify the final scene of Morty leaving Del Boca Vista with a salute as a parody of Nixon's resignation, where he gave a famous two-handed salute while boarding Marine One.

It was a parody of the movie Nixon. Nixon, still proclaiming his innocence, even after resigning the presidencey gives that salute to his supporters. It has been his ever since.
It was a Nixon parody. Of course he was made out to be a hero by this liberal media ( he was a republican). He was thief and a criminal.

I could be wrong, but this totally reminded me of when Nixon resigned. The two handed salute as he was getting in Marine 1 for the last time reminded was the same as the one Morty did.
