Awkward Moments

The show had very few awkward (unintentionally, I believe) moments - but there is one I can't stand to watch.

They are at Susan's parents' place, and the John Cheever letters have just been revealed. Jerry moves to make an exit, pointing at his watch and talking about the time. Jason Alexander overdoes the whole "time is what he's indicating" bit and it seems to me he thinks he's as smooth as Jerry. There are other episodes where he seems to misrepresent George, but I can't think of them. Anyone agree?

PS: On the contrary - two of my favorite George moments: When he makes money in the stock market and tells the waitress to keep the change, then takes a dollar back. AND When he alludes to Elaine that he was responsible for the Big Salad.

Hmm? That was an intentionally awkward moment.

Heh, THAT seemed "smooth" to you? ;-) I agree it was painful to watch, and that's what they were going for. My fave painful George moment is the long, rambling message he leaves on the woman's answering maching; I find myself shouting, "Hang up! Hang up!" whenever I see that part.

There is only one awkward moment I can think of off the top of my head:

In The Cartoon:

Kramer: What do I need to talk for, huh? For to blab to the neighbors about how George has a new femme-Jerry

friend or to tell everybody at the coffee shop how George is all mixed up in a perverse sexual amalgam of

some girl and his best friend.

See now, I've done all that.....Now it's time for silence.

George: Silence YES!!

And after this YES!! There is a pause... like the actors are waiting for a laugh, and the 'audience' doesn't laugh...

Anyhoo... I have always found this to be an awkward thing...

As far as Sein ackward moments in general: In Bubble Boy, when in the diner; the cook, the waitress, Jerry & Elaine struggling on top of each other for the autographed photo - very ackward, unconvincing acting (lol). When Jerry tries to help Kramer get off his tight jeans in The Wait Out...another unconvincing ackward moment.

(P.S. We all think this show is great/funny...we are just dissecting it because we like it...But just imagine how much they are going to tear this show apart in the future when all the cultural references are outdated! (; )

Another one - unconvincing acting - when Elaine and Jerry are working out the terms of them having sex without dating. (staying over is optional) Elaine comes across as totally desperate.

HOWEVER - one of my favorite George moments is in this episode - about the details - when Jerry tells him in the diner that he had sex with Elaine.

George: "You ask me to have lunch, you tell me you slept with Elaine, and then say you're not in the mood for details. Now you listen to me. I want details and I want them right now. I don't have a job, I have no place to go. You're not in the mood? Well you get in the mood!"

Yeah, I've been starting to notice this. Maybe it's time for a new list.

Of course, the writers at times added purposefully dated references, for whatever reason. c.f. Christopher Cross being booked for Newman's millenium party.

Awkward? you bet it was, and yet that scene is one of the most pricelss Seinfeld moments ever, IMHO.

When I was a kid, watching TV with my parents, and then, if a tit appeared in a movie........that was awkward.
