Seinfeld references to Schindler's List

In the close talker episode, there were other references to Spielberg's
movie Schindler's List besides the fact that Jerry and his girlfriend
were making out during the movie.  Today I just realized that the close
talker was like Oskar Schindler himself.  At the end of the episode when
they are at the airport, the close talker says goodbye to Jerry's parents
and then wishes he had done more to help them out.
     The close talker says: "This watch....This watch could have paid for
their whole trip.  This ring....I could have taken them out to one more
dinner...." etc.
   In the movie Schindler's List, at the end when Schindler was about to
leave his factory after the war was over, he cried and said that he could
have saved more Jews.  He said that he could have used his car to save
ten more people, and that his ring could have saved two people, etc.
     Did anyone notice these similarities?

Yes, and I think anyone who saw the movie and didn't catch on to this is a moron. I haven't seen this episode for a couple of years, but I still remember that the Schindler comparison was quite evident. I don't think that it is that great an accomplishment to notice this similarity.

Hey Scott! Why don't you just lighten up a little? If you'll read my post, you'll see that Laurie's post DID help those of us who have not done the politically correct thing and seen Shindler's List. Also, I don't think Laurie was trying to make a "great accomplishment" by noting the similarities between the movie and the TV episode. The purpose of newsgroups like this is for us to discuss and learn. For example, I admit that,at first, I couldn't think of which female body part rhymes with "Delores" until I read the answer in this group. Yes, I was stupid. However, the persons who posted the correct information (clitoris) enlightened me, and now I am a genius.

Yeah. The weird thing was that I saw Schindler's List _after_ I'd seen the Seinfeld episode, so I'm watching the movie thinking "so _that's_ what Seinfeld was about". But at least I didn't neck with my girlfriend.

The ironic part of this comment is that the scene in Schindler's List is one of the few that is total fiction (based on what I've read). Leave it to Seinfeld to parody the melodrama that Hollywood added to reality. After all, if Seinfeld can parody itself, why not take on the rest of the phoniness of the industry.

Actually, Laurie, I haven't seen Schindler's List yet (yes, yes, I'm Going someday, I know I just HAVE TO SEE IT!), but I really had a chuckle after you explained it. I never would have gotten the double entendre in that Seinfeld episode if you had not posted this. I really didn't understand why Judge Rinehold (what kind of a first name is Judge?) made all the fuss at the airport. Now I see....Just another indication of how the Net improves the quality of our daily lives!! DAvid
