Jerry is a Germophobic

Jerry shows classic germophobia In the episode when his girlfriend brushed her teeth with the toothbrush that he had accidentally dropped in the toilet. When he told her, she got so mad that she put something of Jerry's into the toilet, but wouldn't tell him what, so he started throwing stuff away.

I thought it was odd that Jerry was not included in the later episode when the woman from Elaine's office was a germophobic about Elaine. Seems Jerry should have been part of the germoholic/phobic gang, especially at the end when they were eating the salad Kramer had prepared in the shower.

I don't think so. He just didn't want to use the same toothbrush as someone else. Toothbrushes were _not_ meant to be shared. Remember when he let Newman use his bathroom when he was trying to steal a sample of Jerry's hair? He was a little hesitant, but didn't seem to mind that much.

He isn't germophobic, he just doesn't like germs all that much. After all, who wants someone elses' food particles stuck in their teeth?

BUT in that same episode, remember how he was throwing away his CD headphone player and kitchen utinsels all because he thought his girlfriend might have dipped them into his toilet for revenge. Then at the end, he breaks up with his girlfriend because the toilet exploded and she got toilet water all over her. That seems like phobic behavior to me.

I don't think jerry is a germophobe, how could he even live in the same building as kramer and newman if he was a germophobe? how could he even be friends with george, elaine or kramer? All of them have their germ infested fingers in jerry's fridge every single day . . . and then there's elaine, (i'm guessing the germophobes name) peggy was not too fond of elaine because she sleeps with a lot of men, why would jerry have sexual intercourse with elaine if he was a germophobe??? Not only that, how many freakin' women has jerry slept with on the show?????? is this the act of a germophobe???

Easy boy! Don't you think there could be levels of germophobe's? Sure Jerry overlooks many things about his friends, but on the other hand, he has some pretty obsessive compulsive type behavior that could indicate he's a mild germophobe. Would YOU throw away your CD player if you thought it had touched the toilet water or just disinfect? And would YOU break up with your girlfriend if she was covered in toilet water? I didn't say he had to embrace her, but most people wouldn't dump her, just wait until she's cleaned up. Besides, if Jerry's behavior was normal in that episode, then there would have been no comedic element. It was the ABNORMALITY of his behavior that made it funny. Don't forget about the episode where he thought his girlfriend was using fungus creme and the lengths he went to avoid intimacy. What about the pee stained couch cushion? Instead of having a cushion drycleaned, he disposed of the whole couch. This is not normal behavior.

There is also an episode where he throws away something (I can't remember if it's a belt or his shoelaces) because it had touched the wall or floor in a public toilet. When Kramer stopped wearing underwear, he put all of his old underpants on Jerry's table, and Jerry's reaction was not to tell his to move them, but simply to declare that he had to move.

A weird thing is in "The Strike", where he has no problem with the rubber band in the soup at the diner, but other than that, I think he displays lots of signs of being a germophobe.

There are undoubtedly many references to OCD on seinfeld. The TV Jerry is a germophobic, even though he has slept with lots of women. OCD isn't exactly logical, and some of the people with OCD who are heavily into hand-washing and cleaning have sex a lot, too. There is NO way that Jerry's behavior in the Pothole, when he's throwing everything in his apartment out because it could have been put in the toilet, can be justified as "normal." Same with the time when he throws out his belt when it hits the side of a urinal, and his shoelace when it touches the ground in a public bathroom. There's nothing with the fact that Jerry is obsessive compulsive, but the writers should work out the little inconsistancies.

The fact that Jerry didn't have a problem with the rubber band in the soup in "The Strike" really bothers me. The only way I could justify it was that he wasn't eating it, but even then, wouldn't he wonder what was in his food?

Come on. When he found out his girlfriend had put something in the toilet, he threw EVERYTHING in his apartment away! Did you see those bare cupboards in his kitchen? Plus, when he gave Elaine the keys to his car and told her to put the garbage in the car, she said, "I don't know who you are, but thanks for the car" After she left, he wailed that that had been his last germ free refuge -- he'd even slept inthere the night before! I think the man is very much a germophobe. He's a neat freak that discards shoelaces when they touch a public restroom floor.

Now that I made my original point (that Jerry is a germophobe), I think that the writer's should have incorporated Jerry into the germophobe episode with the lady from Elaine's office and Puddy, etc. It seemed like they had to go out of their way not to.
