I am a little bit confused about Kramer. On one of the early episodes, Jerry mentions that Kramer hasn't left the apartment building in ten years. I am not sure what the episode is called, but I think its the one where the female political science professor stays with Jerry. At the beginning of the episode Jerry is watching a taped Mets game. Kramer walks into Jerry's apartment wearing a bath robe, and mentions that he almost went to the game. Jerry scoffs and remarks that Kramer hasn't left the building in ten years. As everbody knows, in following episodes Kramer is portrayed as quite a sociable guy. I'd like to know if there is an episode where Kramer undergoes a transition from a reclusive shut in to a social animal. Maybe there isn't such an episode. Maybe the episode I am referring to is just a mistake on the part of the show's writers. (an early episode experiment with the characters.)
Kramer: A complete mystery
Couple things going on here. One, Jerry at that point is apparently fairly new in the building and is just beginning to get to know Kramer well...he doesn't have the almost life-long history that he has with George. Two, Jerry's character speaks in hyperbole often, for emphasis. Three, Kramer's character did go through changes. Michael Richards says early on, both he and the writers saw Kramer as rather slow, and behind the curve...but along about the ninth episode of the series he decided instead to play Kramer as a guy who was AHEAD of the curve and off in his own direction, living his own way and not inclined to apol- ogize to anyone for it. The writers were with him on it, all the way...and so you get the Kramer you have today...a guy who's a lot less idiot and a lot more sav- ant (and a lot more like the real Kenny Kramer, a very shrewd and independent guy).
