Didn't like Festivus

Can't help it, I didn't like Festivus. It's very hard to imagine that someone could invent such a mean-spirited holidy. A metal pole? Come on!

I did, however, like the rest of the episode. The two-face was a good concept, I do know people that look entirely different without make-up/in different lighting. But the way they pulled it off wasn't that great, it just looked like in one case she had make-up on, in the other she didn't.

And Kramer on strike for 12 years? That's an awful big revelation. That's the problem with this episode, IMHO: too many big revelations. Festivus by itself, maybe I can handle. Kramer on strike for 12 years, maybe. Together, it starts sounding a bit incredulous. Like they are pulling stuff out of thin air just to make a show.

We can look at this two ways- 1) the writers were pulling stuff out of thin air (which they were doing) or 2) they were deliberately making each character have a major revlation

Actually, I liked the strike thing. Kramer always has things from the past that come up like that- and his character has so many things like that it seems OK.

How does Festivus reconcile with George's parents being so upset when he converted? His father was especially upset, though he appearantly invented his own religion!

Could be you're already celebrating it...looks like the airing of grievances to me. ;-)

Actually when you come to think of it, it explains a lot. Kramer probably will feel even better about life now that he's officially fired and can go back to, in George's words, "falling ass-backwards into money" with no un- finished business in his mind. Imagine Kramer with no sense of past obligations and no barriers to his goofiest ambitions...can you think of anything more potentially dangerous? The comedic potential is unlimited...this ought to be fun. Could an initial public offering of Kramerica be far behind? ;-)

It was good to see the Kramer "Dr. Martin Van Nostrand" gag back. That name was taken from a character in a 1970's NYC porno flick I believe.

I thought "Festivus" as inspired satire! After all, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar is Yom Kippur, when you atone for being such an asshole all year long! :-)

I have been very critical of SEINFELD this year (and what a problem he had the week before, having a gorgeous naked blonde walking around his apartment all the time!), but this episode had me laughing straight through. It was the best "George" episode in some time. Highlights:

* Frank's slogan, "A Festivus for the rest of us." Neatly mimicked Apple Computer's "The computer for the rest of us."

• Frank's "Festivus" pole.

• Frank playing the "Festivus" tape for the gang at Monk's.

* Kramer exclaiming "Another Festivus miracle!" every time someone he invited showed up at Frank's house.

* Elaine giving out the OTB phone number as her "fake number" and suffering the consequences when the mouth-breeders show up at dinner.

• The "Human Fund."

• The "feats of strength."

* The continuing development of Mr. Krueger as a worthy successor to Mr. Wilhelm. I especially liked him locking himself out of his office "again" and going home; and his remark to Frank that, "Your people's belief system fascinates me."

* Could've been better: Kevin McDonald's name could have been "Denholm Vest," instead of just being referred to as "denim vest." That would've been a crack-up!

I probably left out one or two items, but, these days, compiling a list of more than a half-dozen SEINFELD highlights makes an episode a keeper!

My post was cut short and I didn't get to add the stuff I liked from the episode. I thought the Elaine/ugly girlfriend thing was funny. I also really empathized with Elaine over the subway card. I know what she means, when you've gone to that much trouble, you're going to get what you've waited for! That was very in keeping with her character.

But I have to say I *hated* George. He is getting more and more unfunny. He used to be a blend of rage and other traits. Now all he is is rage. I don't find it funny. But....just MHO of course. :)

So for me, this was the worst episode of the season (maybe tied with the Junk Mail). But, this was much better than some of the early ones (like the stock tip, etc), again IMHO, those were so slow, they were excruciating to watch! :) We were watching one the other day and my husband said to me, Would you be watching this if you weren't a Seinfeld fan and hadn't seen this before? I said NOPE! :)

I thought Festivus was actually a pretty good episode...not great, but good. Even if you didn't belly-laugh, it was still pleasantly entertaining.

You know what would've been funny (although highly politically incorrect, and let me apologize RIGHT NOW for anyone being offended by my suggestion; I mean no offense, and I am new to the group, so bear with me, as I understand some might not find one particular part of this funny), albeit unrealistic and a tad illogical (but, hey, that's the best definition of a sitcom, correct): Kramer gets his old job back as one of the air traffic controllers, and in the process causes a plane to crash, a plane which is carrying some character on the show whose death would've helped one of the characters solve a problem (like Susan's death solved George's problem). Maybe it could've been Susan's parents, thus dis-obligating George from doing the charity work in her memory. I think it could've been handled in a funny, tasteful way.

Or better yet: Puddy.

But then that would mean that the producers would have to come up with another boyfriend for Elaine and this time the writers would have to actually write lines for a character that had some substance and that were funny. We should be so lucky. Jennifer

LOL....now that is about right. Now THAT is funny. The writers of that show would do well to take a look at your post. Maybe they might get an idea about how they could make "Puddy" funny. Jennifer

Well, the way I see it, the character of Puddy is just so limited that a few episodes with him might be mildly humorous (though some people do seem to find him very funny....each to their own) but after that.....well a little of "Puddy" goes a long way. Unfortunately, for viewers, Wayne Knight only signed for 9 shows this season. That is ONLY 2 more than Patrick W. signed to do Puddy for. Wayne Knight is apparently going to have his own series and has some other things in the works. SEINFELD sure misses him when he isn't on. Honestly, I think they should have made him a regular as I think they could have kept him on the show. Ofcourse that is just a guess on my part. Jennifer

Festivus would have been a lot better if Puddy had engaged himself in the Feats of Strength with Mr. Costanza! Of course, winning at something like that might be more than Elaine could have on her conscience.

Why, Puddy might just take a hankering for this "new" faith!
