Yes that was the *very* first show! It first aired July 5 89. It did not have Elaine in it at that time. Then they felt that they needed a bit more feminitity(sp), so hense: Elaine was brought in a bit later.

Seeing this episode always fascinates me because the characters have changed so much. George seemed much more confident in the ways of women, telling Jerry all about "signals", and Jerry seemed more insecure. And Kramer! He's barely coherent, and Jerry's remark about him "not having left the building in ten years" is a far cry from the swingin' Cosmo we know today!

-It was pretty boring, except one line totally cracked me up... When Kramer -walks in, in a bathrobe at 1am, reaches in his pockets, pulls out two -pieces of bread, and says "ya got any meat?" That killed me. ;) - -The rest of it was pretty lame. Who knows how this show ever survived...

It sure was. The NBC execs summed up the pilot episode in a letter to Jerry in one word...."Weak". That letter has since been framed and is hung on the set of Seinfeld. Also, did you notice how George tries to copy Woody Allen's style and voice in the pilot? Thank god he gave that up.
